Nov. 6th, 2010 09:47 amSo there's a new OTA for the G2 floating about, but since I couldn't wait, I used the method from the t-mobile forums to get the update manually. So now I have the ability to do wi-fi calling- it still uses your minutes tho, but it wasn't meant to be a method to get free service over wireless, but to be able to make calls when you're in an area with crappy cell reception but do have access to wi-fi.
Also, it unlocked the ability to use it as a mobile wireless hotspot and for tethering. Interestingly enough, since t-mobile hasn't set up their tethering plans yet, tethering is free for now. Of course, they'll eventually start charging for it- I'm sure they want to hook some people up now with a free taste, and hope they can hook them on the unlimited data tethering plan when it comes out. Of course, I don't have any need for tethering, but it is nice to have the option.
And cool, the latest version of youtube works properly now- I had downloaded the youtube update previously, but it would lock up the g2. So I un-installed it and was using the stock youtube build and just waiting for youtube to come out with an even newer update that would fix the issue. But I saw that the new OTA for the phone fixes the issue. So I re-downloaded it and now it works fine.
Speaking of android apps, any android users out there have recs for interesting free android apps?
