TV commentary:

Friday Night Lights- You know, I didn't even know this was starting back up this week. So with Julie and Landry having graduated, I guess they're no longer on the show? Was this first ep just a send off for them? Its a little weird for them to come back for the one ep just to leave. And heh, what about people like Devon or Grandma Saracen, with both Julie and Landry gone, its not like there'll be reason for them to be on the show anymore. And you know, what's the point of making this backstory of Devin being a lesbo if they never did anything about it? Like will they address the doofus coach being gay? Again, what was the point of having Julie and Devin bump into him at that gay bar last year if they weren't gonna do anything about it?

It was weird to see them hanging out and acting like they're such good friends? I mean, other than sharing Matt (and I guess Tyra), they seem so different. And I mean, Julie taking Landry to a strip club, it just doesn't seem like something they'd do together.

Anyways, lots of parents MIA this season. Alicia Witt is apparently working on some casino boat, so Becks is staying with her dad and his gf and their daughter. But, it doesn't work out, so she moves in with the Riggins. Speaking of, Billy's feeling totally guilty that his brother took the fall for him (and Tim's not to keen on seeing him or Becky at the jailhouse any more) and after hearing Tim say how much more Coach was a father and role model to him than Billy was, he decides to see Coach about an assistant coach position. It takes some convincing, but when Billy tells him how he's been such a great influence on Tim and how he could use Coach's guidance, Coach takes him in.

Meanwhile, Jess' dad has gone away to set up BBQ franchises or something, so she's left taking care of her bratty brothers. One of them is being particularly assy, but Vince convinces him to step up and be the man of the house rather than mope about his dad being gone. So he helps Jess out that way.

But he also whores her out- Buddy finds some new white boy talent who's really athletic, but a basketball player. Coach thinks he can use him, so he tasks Luke and Vince to recruit him. Luke tries to do this by trying to get him drunk and showing him his awesome pig, whereas Vince just sends Jess to use her wiles on him. I smell triangle!

Anyways, he proves instrumental in them winning, so they're off to a good start. Though Luke literally crippling the opposing team's offense helped. I wonder if that's a one off thing, or if him hurting that guy will mean something later?

As for Tami, she's ready to hit the ground running at her new guidance counselor job, despite the defeatist attitude of her colleagues. Will she make a diff with the kids of East Dillon?
