TV Commentary:
True Blood- Holy cow, things are about to turn real crazy on this show. Like, even more insane than the stuff with Mary Ann last season. I mean, that was literally just silly small town shenanigans compared to what might be coming. I mean, take for example the whole thing with Crystal and her kin. Through a series of unrelated events, it seems like Sam and Jason separately have declared war on Hot Shots. And given the mysterious nature of Crystal's family (they're some sort of supe, not vampire, werewolf, shifter, or fairie. I guess some sort of witch or magic user would be the only thing left for them to be?), that might pose a real danger to the normal police and federal agents Andy's trying to get to raid the place. And that is child's play to what Russell is pulling! He basically effed the American Vampire League and their Vampire Rights Amendment that they're trying to get passed in Congress and destroyed all of the political "goodwill" Nan has been campaigning for since this show started!
Anyways, so Russell is needless to say, off his rocker now that Talbot is gone. I mean, he was pretty insane to start with, but now he is friggin nuts. I mean, putting Talbots remains in a glass urn and carrying it with him and talking to him kinda insane. Eric is obviously gone by the time Russell had gotten there, returning to Fangtasia and Pam. But, as soon as he gets there, Nan and I guess soldiers of "The Authority" are there. Hmm, so they're heavily armed and armored, wearing silver armor. I wonder if they're all vamps, or just ghouls?
In any case, Nan sets up a video chat with Eric and the Authority (they can see him, but he doesn't get to see them) and tells them the complete truth. How Russell is a megalomaniac who has been the source of all sorts of conflict for thousands of years, and how he believes they should take their rightful place as kings of the world rather than hiding behind the masquerade or now that vamps are out and about, passing bills in Congress and wot-not. And he didn't tell them as soon as he knew because Russell killed his family and Eric wanted to get his personal revenge. Of course, its a crazy story to swallow, not to mention Russell's huge monetary donation to the AVL, so Nan leaves Eric and Pam there to stew while the Authority renders their decision.
As they wait, Eric shares a tender moment with his childe, saying he never told her about all this because he didn't want to burden her with it. And if they make him a scapegoat and kill him over this mess, he'll make sure she's safe and tasks her with siring her own childe if he should die. But he needn't have worried, as Nan quickly comes back with their verdict. They disavow everything he told them, they don't want to deal with this crap. So, he's "unofficially tasked" with killing Russell for them. They won't give him help mind you, even though Russell is thrice his age, but he's the one who uncovered this mess, he gets to take care of it, or they'll "take care" of him.
Unfortunately, as Russell goes to Fangtasia, presumably with the intent to get his revenge on Eric, he spies the AVL's armored vehicles, and knowing even he might have trouble dealing with all that, just hides, and has crazy conversations with the Talbot remains, basically suspecting what indeed did happen, that the AVL is tasking Eric with going after him, though he thinks maybe Eric was their assassin all along. So, instead, he interrupts a live news broadcast, rips out the spine of the anchor, and goes on about how vamps are gods and monsters, and the humans should rightfully fear him and all other vampires. The Vampire Rights Amendment is a joke to him, because that implies humans are their equals! So given that he just single handedly declared war on human kind, I'm sure the Authority will be scrambling, trying to figure out how to get themselves out of the mess they thought they just pawned off on Eric.
And so much happens on this show, its easy to lose track of which characters know what. Sookie had never met Sophie Anne?! I could've sworn she did. But she was apparently clueless that Hadley was a thrall of the Queen, much less who the Queen is! And Crystal is keeping her cards close to her vest, thinking she's protecting Jason from things he couldn't possibly understand, when he's in the middle of his own crazy supe stuff.
Speaking of the Stackhouses, Suckeh and Bill are back together. He explains the file was only because he was curious why Eric was so curious about her. During his sleep later that day, he ends up in the dream glade place, and Claudette freaks out that he killed Sookie since he's there. He tries to explain that he loves Sookie and he'd never hurt her, but Claudette gives the same speech she gave to Sookie, that he thinks that, but that won't be the case. Meanwhile Sookie gets a visit from Hadley, who basically kidnapped her young son (I guess she was a teen mom?) from daycare and gets her cousin to confirm that her son is a mind reader like Sookie. Hadley freaks out once Sookie proves her suspicions right, and runs off with him to protect him from the people who will come after him because of his powers.
Jason meanwhile, has typical white trash happenings. He shows up back at his place to see Crystal's fiancee there. She's claiming Jason kidnapped and raped her, and when her fiancee attacks him, they knock him out. They tie him to a tree (with rope, not handcuffs, as apparently handcuffs "won't hold him") and drop an anonymous tip to the authorities, hoping they'll find him and arrest him once they find all that V in his pocket. The next morning, they find out Kevin answered the call, and got hurt bad enough to be hospitalized. The fiancee isn't there, but they did find the V. Which Andy claims he checked into evidence, but he actually didn't. But that's not important right now. What is is that her cousin sees Crystal there and is displeased. And, that Jason, wanting to clean up this mess, wants Andy to raid Hot Shots. Andy says he's already got calls to the state troopers, ATF, FBI, etc to take these guys down.
Crystal freaks (there's a lot of that going on, isn't there) as soon as she hears about that. Though whether she's scared for he kin or the cops coming to raid the place, its hard to tell. To make matters worse, Tommy has been being a little prick and a thorn in Sam's side. Sam is trying to play the adult, and claims he used to be a wild kid himself when he was Tommy's age, but his brother is "Yeah, right!" Eventually, Sam is just sick and tired of all this BS, and when Crystal's dad shows up at Merlotte's (where Jason has just taken her for dinner), her dad and Sam get into a fight and Sam royally beats the shit out of him. Lafayette and Jesus drive him to the emergency room, and Crystal tags along. Jason is incredulous, since these are the same people (her family, not the two gay dudes!) who've been smacking her around her entire life. He gets left behind, but that's a good thing.
Why, because Tara is still suffering PTSD from the whole Franklin thing. Sam tries to be there for her, but having to deal with Tommy interrupts that. She goes to a rape survivor's group, which apparently new waitress Holly Cleary is part of, and they go to their shift at the bar afterward. After the whole mess with Crystal's dad, Franklin shows up and nabs Tara in the commotion, taking her out back and being his nutty self, all, why are you making me kill you? Interestingly enough, Jason's words to Crystal as she hopped in the truck to take her dad to the hospital are almost the exact same thing Tara's been telling Sookie about sticking with Bill, which of course where her projecting her own experiences with Franklin.
Eventually, she dares Franklin to kill her because if he does, at least she'll finally be free. But Jason shows up to her rescue with his wooden bullet shotgun. Franklin doesn't know that though, so he just stands there all nonchalant, telling Jason he can't do anything to him. So, Jason blows him into a pile of bloody goo by shooting him in through the heart with his stake gun.
Other stuff- Jesus and Lafayette seem all happy and normal, which again prolly means there's something up with Jesus. He has a panther tattoo, which he claims is just his high school mascot, but who knows. Lafayette's mom does seem more mellow too, and Jesus takes her back to the rehab place.
And Holly Cleary makes friends with everyone, so she's obviously something too. She gets Arlene to admit the whole Rene baby mess. (not through magic or anything, its something Arlene's been wanting off her chest and Holly happened to be at the right place at the right time with reassuring words) Arlene is convinced the baby is evil like its dad, but she doesn't want to abort it, and Holly offers a solution saying there are "other ways". WTF does that mean? I'm trying to remember if we've ever seen her in any scenes with Crystal or her family? Because it would be easiest for her to end up being one of their kind.
Finally, Hoyt and Jessica have a talk when she shows up at her shift to see Hoyt and Summer there for a date. And just when she composes herself saying she's gotten to a good place wrt how things are with them, he tells her he actually hates Summer (not while she's at the table of course, they have this talk as she leaves for the bathroom. And what kinda of grown chick takes a bunch of dolls with her on a date?!), but he's only dating her to stop thinking of Jessica. So Jess is all upset over the way he's pulling her heart in all sorts of directions.

Date: 2010-08-17 12:24 pm (UTC)But if you mean how much of the season focuses on them as characters period, I wanna say a quarter. (well, technically, and eighth each, I'm just combining them together.) I mean, I think besides them, the main characters are Jason, Tara, Eric, Jessica, Sam, and Lafayette, and as seen by my lengthy posts, I think they've all been getting an equal amount of screen time for their respective storylines. Which while revolving around each other at times aren't always apparently connected. Bill and Sookie are 2 out of the 8 main characters, which is where I'm getting a quarter of the focus.
Maybe a little less, because there's secondary characters getting some stuff too.
