Make It or Break It- So fresh off their loss against China (although it was a lesser loss than the National Team had against the Chinese), the girls have a magazine spread as the "rebels of the Rock". Ellen counters their little coup by saying they're suspended and not going to the meet in France. Sasha tells them to be cool and call her bluff. But after a text from Kelly Parker, they freak out and go behind his back and beg forgiveness.
They try to keep it a secret, but when Kaylee and Emily get to go to France and Lauren doesn't, she pitches a fit and reveals what they did (not to out them to Sasha, but to complain it was her idea to go to Ellen, and she thinks its total BS that she doesn't get to reap the benefits). Sasha is obviously hurt, but he can't fault them too much, because the girls took their fate into their own hands. He disagrees with their choice, but at least they made their choice themselves.
In any case, it seems like there's a disconnect between what Ellen's story and what she's doing. I mean, she tells them how she was an Olympic hopeful, and even though she followed the rules and was Little Miss Perfect, she didn't make it onto the team. So how is that supposed to make them agree to be obedient to the National Committee and her rules? And she seems to really believe that. It seems like her only chance at Olympic glory now is to hand pick who she wants to be the Olympic team and have them win gold. So I guess she wants them in line. But it still seems weird for someone who acts so bitter about following the rules and it not panning out is the one championing sticking by the rules.
In the b-plots, Payson's off because her downtime caused the hormones that were suppressed during her active gymnastics lifestyle to kick into gear, so she's growing. Which upsets her because now she can't move as well if she's bigger. Sasha tells her to calm down, and she should wait and train and get used to her new body. But she's stubborn and wants on the National team, so she goes to Ellen and files a petition to get onto the National team even though Sasha thinks she's not ready.
Carter apparently hasn't been talking to Kaylee since her phone call during his sexy time with Lauren. She ends up finally cornering him and he says he just wants to be friends, but doesn't tell her about Lauren. He wants to tell her, but Lauren says to wait until after the meet in France. And he also finally reveals his total 180 from last season and why he inexplicably picked her even though it seemed he had zero interest in her? Apparently he took her bugging him constantly as her being the only one there for him, so he chose her. Anyways, with Lauren not making it to the French meet, followed by Kaylee getting the cover on the gymnastics magazine without the others, Lauren blows a gasket and outs Carter choosing her.
As for Emily, she's hurting for financial aid, but she doesn't want her mom getting any money from Steve because she doesn't want them to be under his thumb. Turns out he's not as jerky as she thinks. Since Lauren brats she wants on the team, and her dad better get her on it, he goes to Ellen and asks what it would take. Apparently booting Sasha from the Rock. Okay, that part is pretty jerky. What's not jerky is him asking Ellen to reinstate Emily's scholarship. She refuses, so he says fine, make up a scholarship and he'll foot the bill. She agrees. Then the evil bitch immediately calls Emily and says how she found this scholarship for Emily and basically ends up coming out the hero. I mean, Steve said he didn't want Emily to know it was coming from him, but I don't think he expected Ellen to use it in her continual power play against Sasha by being the one to "save" Emily.
The silly thing is after Steve makes the deal with Ellen, he was all, "you were gonna let them on the team anyways, before they came and begged you, right?" Well, if he thought that's what she was doing, why did he freak out when he heard about it? Did it really take this conversation with her to make him realize that?
Oh, and to further twist the knife into the Sasha betrayal, he had just expedited Emily's passport so she can go on the trip, confident that he was that Ellen was gonna put them on the team regardless. And even though Emily's trying to act all chill, she's excited to go because Damon is touring in Europe, and will be in Paris around the time she is.
