Ah, when it rains, it pours!

TV Commentary:

Burn Notice- Interesting ep. Particularly since the Case of the Week is being handled by Fiona, and it ends up being someone pretty grey. (Played by Tony from 24!) I mean, the reason he was doing the ruthless kidnapping thing was to avenge his daughter's death. So, in that way, Fiona and he are similar. But she felt he was going too far. Her character has been confusing me as of late. I mean, it was definitely weird in the most recent Larry ep, where they act like Mikey is the crazy homicidal maniac and Fiona's keeping him in check, rather than the other way around.

Did they feel some need to kinda change her character around so she wasn't an ex-IRA sociopath? Because in previous seasons, she was the bloodthirsty, violence-loving one. I guess in the mid-season finale or whatever, the ep where Harry Dresden was after her, they made it sound like she was angry after her sister got killed, so she hooked up with the IRA. But he wanted to go too far, bombing a school full of children. Which is understandable. (not the blowing up the school, the thinking its going too far) And she was telling Tony he was going to far, kidnapping some innocent scientist or executive or whatever the guy was. And the reason she took this case was seeing that guy's daughter in the paper asking for her daddy back. So, when she was angry at the English, who did she direct her rage towards? English soldiers? Because wouldn't those men have families too? But I guess that's the point, you can hate and vilify an enemy like that, but when you really look, they're not the totally evil bastards you think they are.

But I'm rambling now. But anyways, its interesting they thwarted Tony's plan (which I was never too clear on, he wanted to kidnap a second guy so he could kill the first guy to show he means business?), so Fi has to stop him from cutting his losses and just killing that first hostage. But when she does and Tony tries to kill himself with that firetrap he set up, she risks her life (and Michael's!) to save him. And in the end, even though he's arrested, she "convinces" the guy who got kidnapped to turn whistleblower and take down that company Tony was after, so at least his daughter gets justice.

As for the on-going plot, so they break that mysterious guy out of the plane. Well, Gilroy does, in an interesting plan involving causing an accident at the airport the plane was scheduled to stop over at so that all air traffic was redirected so he could direct it to a makeshift runway of his choosing in the chaos. Michael was tasked with watching the road (though he didn't know why at the time).

So, the mysterious prisoner is someone called Simon, and he double crosses Gilroy and kills him, and its revealed this Simon specifically asked for Michael to be brought into this escape plan. That was a surprise, they make Gilroy out to be this scary bad-ass, and he just ends up getting killed like it was nothing. He does warn Mike about Simon before he dies though.

So who is Simon? Is it someone from Michael's past we never met? Someone we already know going by a pseudonym? What does he want with Michael? Next week's ep should definitely be interesting.
