Sporcle quiz: Guess the TV title from the theme song- only 15 out of 20. I never watched the "Baby, if you ever wondered, wondered whatever became of me…" show or "[show title] Any time you make a payment, [show title] any time you need a friend..." show (actually, the latter I knew the theme, I didn't actually know there were other lyrics to it) The last three I can't believe I didn't get. "You woke up this morning. Got yourself a gun..."? I had the line repeating in my head, just like the song, but it was just on the edges of my mind. Same with "Whatever it takes, I know I can make it through." Well, at least with that one the tune actually did come to mind, I just couldn't recall the show. The last one, "A long time ago we used to be friends but I haven't thought of you lately..." I think I would've totally gotten it if they just put the "A long time ago we used to be friends part", the rest of the line through me off.

TV commentary:

The Closer- So I guess Kyra Sedgwick's daughter is back to Atlanta? Did Brenda say to Fritz she didn't want kids at one point? But the way she was with Charlie seems like she might be changing her mind, and Fritz notices. Though isn't she somewhat old, like too old to have a child without there being a pretty good risk of complications?

And what the hell is the big surprise ending you don't see coming? That even though Brenda got the guy to fess up to everything, Xander Berkley gave her the file to pull on her heartstrings to get her to renege on her promise and turn him over to Texas so he can be put to death. So was it that she was manipulated?

Make It or Break It- Okay, was Kellie Parker watching last week's ep or something? Otherwise how the hell would she be able to make those comments, given they were secrets the girls only revealed to each other at the camp? And she did say the stuff in public, I would think if the coach found out about the whole Carter-Kaylee-Lauren thing, he'd be pretty mad, given he already suspended Carter and was looking for who he was involved with. And the Payson drug thing, I guess people could just chalk it up to Kellie Parker trying to spread nasty untrue rumors about her biggest rival, but you'd think her parents or the Coach would have said something to Payson about it.

Speaking of, how deliciously cruel and ironic. After finding out Kellie Parker was doing cortisone also, Payson resolves to not take that last shot, and the pain ends up causing her to fall off the parallel bars and injure herself. Interesting, is she off the show? Well, I guess Jason Street got crippled in the first ep of FNL and they managed to work him in. And Payson isn't even paralyzed they just said, "if she does gymnastics, she's like to exacerbate the injury and cripple herself". So I guess she could spend next season beating the odds. To what end though? Her only wish was to make the Olympic team, and that's not happening.

I mean, I can't see how she'd get on, and even if she did, since Emily squeaked by, wouldn't she end up knocking Emily off. Although I guess that also means, had Payson not injured herself, Emily wouldn't have made it to the Olympics.

I'm actually surprised Kaylee won it all. I guess that works. Since Emily was the girl with lots of raw talent but untrained, I figured the show was setting her up to be the one to become the best. Maybe eventually. But she was so far behind the first day of Nationals, it would've been ridiculously impossible for her to win it. And kinda prosaic. I think for Emily, her journey was to see that she belonged there. She's really good, but still has a ways to go. She raw and needs molding to reach the level (and most likely surpass) the other girls. And Lauren's journey involved her abandonment issues, and finally having someone she can rely on with Summer. But I always thought she was the "weakest" of the bunch. Well, she's very good, but that's due to her dedication and training, in terms of raw ability, she's after the rest of the girls.

I guess they did say Kaylee had the potential to be incredible, but she basically wasn't trying earlier in the season. So with the distractions of Carter and her dad gone, and the motivation to beat Kellie Parker for Payson, she was able to pull the win off. Actually, I guess we'll be seeing more of Kellie Parker next season, given they'll all be on the same team?
