(yeah, this is a couple of days late, but whateva!) I've said on here before how awesome I find Montyoum's Dead Fantasy I and II. Previews of the next few chapters came out this past week at Fanime 2009, and they look awesome.

One thing I love about the series is the choreography and moves. I mean, there are definite nods to various martial arts movies in the choreography, but he also manages to incorporate signature moves from various fighting games. Like if you're a big fighting game player, you'll be all, "Oh, that's that move from Soul Calibur!" or "Cool, they have her doing that move from Tekken". But the other thing I like about this series are the references to things integral to the mythos of both the final fantasy and dead or alive series, as well as using powers of the characters in new and interesting ways. I enjoyed the use of haste (even using the haste spell animation from FF) and elixirs, or how you don't get to really use Kasumi's teleportation or Ayane's spells in DOA, but they're utilized to full affect here.

Anyways, here's the clips from DFIII-V from Fanime 20009, though its floor cam stuff, so you have to deal with lame cheering and wot-not:

DF III- Tifa vs Hitomi. Heh, I like the whole Hitomi getting rid of all of Tifa's materia to even the playing field. Then, an appearance by Hayate, so I guess its not just the girls of the DOA and FF anymore.

DF IV- Kasumi vs Yuna. Again, here's where they go beyond the whole "Lets have these two characters have a martial arts battle", and incorporate things beyond their straight fighting abilities. Here, you have the various Kasumi clones show up, but you also get Yuna to use her Summoner powers. So, you end up with a big fracas with dozens of Kasumi clones fighting aeons like Shiva, Ifrit, and Bahamut. You can't not be a Final Fantasy fan and not think this part is awesome. And with Hayate showing up in the previous one, FF needs a guy to even things out, so who should appear but Cloud!

DF V- Tifa on the run from Hayate and the rest of the Mugen Tenshin ninja clan. What a low down bushwhacker! Hitomi softens her up by getting rid of all of her materia, and that's when Hayate shows up with dozens of armed ninjas!? This one's bloody and brutal. Again, you can see elements of things like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon to Soul Calibur to the DW/SW series. Plus, clever use of a rolling jack! Ooh, people are gonna be mad at how this one ends.

All in all, when I heard there were gonna be several more chapters after the first two, I was skeptical and all, how much more can be done? But it looks like there are some clever ideas here. I can't wait for the full versions to these to come out, they should be awesome!
