So I took my car in since I was owed a radio, and the guy was all, "for another $195, you can also get a DVD player with in-dash video screen." Those are options on cars now? That's kinda insane. I mean, they've had it in mini-vans and SUVs for years, but I think its a little pointless (and actually kinda distracting) for something sedan sized. I mean, if the passengers in the back want to watch a DVD or play video games or whatever, that's fine, but the driver shouldn't be able to. And even if the dash screen is big enough for people in the back to see, its too close to the driver's field of vision that I would think it would be a distraction. Its okay on mini-vans and SUVs when you can mount it behind the driver. I guess one could watch it when they're parked somewhere, but what are they doing watching a dvd? If they wanted to spend their time watching a DVD, they should stayed home and watched it in their living room. If they're in their car, they've chosen to go somewhere, so why aren't they doing that instead of watching a DVD?

TV Commentary:

Smallville- Ooh, interesting ep before the break. Seems Tess did a lot of research after Jimmy put Davis on her radar. The whole retcon thing of Davis crash landing with Clark and Lionel temporarily taking him in was a little silly. I mean, even if the tests on him were negative, Davis is a friggin' kid from outer space! Why would he just toss him out in the streets? And once Davis hulked out and killed Lionel's men who dumped him, wouldn't that make Lionel reconsider his stance. Wouldn't he wonder why the kid disappeared and his guards were slaughtered?!

But I am kinda amused by Tess' commentary on Luthor arrogance, how they thought they were each the advesary, when it was the kid they just got rid off. And I'm glad Clark isn't trying to convince Tess he's no one special. Well, he's dickily shirking the whole savior of mankind prophecy. But she knows enough that he can't lie about it anymore.

Though it was obvious the kryptonite wasn't gonna kill him. Yeah, it hurt him when he was a kid, but didn't his mother tell him how he can't die and anything that seems to, he'll just come back to life, immune to what killed him. So why did he think Kryptonite would be any different. That was hilarious though when Clark is all "Don't kill yourself, you must have something you can live for!" Then he looks at Chloe and laughs because she is that thing, but since nothing can come of it, he doesn't actually have anything to live for.

But awesome, he's hiding out in the Talon basement all, "Chloe, you're the only one who can keep me from turning into a monster!" and she decides to stay with him. Like she wouldn't, its the classic bad boy thing! You know that line totally got her wet.

Supernatural- Ah cool ep of Supernatural tonight. From the description, I thought it was gonna be silly and possibly sucky. But it was actually pretty good. It managed to combine a funny, meta ep with one that actually has big implications for the overall story arc. So Lilith is scared because she found out she's not gonna survive until the end. Does that mean some other big bad is gonna have to finish her work?

But yeah, the whole Supernatural book thing seemed a little 9th Wonders, but it wasn't nearly as lame. And it gave the show a chance to wink at the fandom. But turns out the author actually is important! So he's a prophet. And he's seen something big coming up for the Winchester boys. But Zachariah won't let him tell the brothers, he's only job is to get write and be prophetic. And the Z-man can be pretty ominous, what with Chuck being all, "What if I just kill myself?" and Zachariah all, "We'd just bring you back!" So looks like Chuck's stuck.

the screens have a lockout feature where (unless you short the wire) they won't play the dvd unless the car is in park. :)

I guess you didn't 'upgrade'? it's probably a good thing 'cause next thing ya know, someone is catching you watching pr0n while sitting at a stop light and you're all over dasdurnburnedinternets!

That's great, safety-wise and all, but then what's the point? Or do other people spend lots of time in their cars not driving and I'm weird?

Stakeouts? The homeless?

Okay, I've got nothing. Never understood myself, except for the rear-seat models to entertain the kids on long car trips. Having 3 younger brothers, I really wish they came out with those a few years earlier.

road trips is the only thing I can think of. I know on some road trips (I've driven cross-country a bunch of times now) I've wanted to have something to watch, but yeah, mostly pointless.

that said, we did short ours out on our truck when we installed it because it was a GPS + DVD player. This way we could input addresses while driving. Normally this was the passenger inputting while the driver was driving...

Yeah, no, I though a DVD player would bit much. I wouldn't have minded a screen for a gps though.

But who watches pr0n in a car without tinted windows?!
