Finally got a chance to check out WoD: Inferno yesterday. Lots of neat stuff there. And from what I've seen, the new rules are somewhat simple and easy to integrate.
Anyways,
turdburgler asked me to post a list of all the shows I watch with a one sentence description, so here it is, by day:
Monday:
Gossip Girl- A show about privileged teenagers from the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
Chuck- twenty something computer geek inadvertantly downloads the contents of an NSA/CIA supercomputer into his brain, so he's kinda forced into the spy world, using the knowledge to protect the country, all the while being protected by a surly bad-ass NSA agent, and a hottie CIA agent, both of whom have inserted themselves into his mundane life as a Geek Squad (well, that world's equivalent) techie.
How I Met Your Mother- basically Friends for the oughts, its follows a group of late twenty/early thirty-somethings in NYC, narrated by Bob Saget, with the series being a story he's telling his kids on how he met their mother (the identity of whom is not yet known).
Heroes- a show about a bunch of people who develop incredible powers and how they deal with that (and how the world deals with them)
House- Brilliant, but prickish a-hole Dr. House and his team of experts try to diagnose and treat strange diseases every week.
24- Taking place in real time, it follows the day of bad-ass government agent Jack Bauer.
One Tree Hill- It started out as a show about two half brothers and their peers from Tree Hill, a small North Carolina town that's really big on basketball. But they did a flash forward a couple of years ago, so its about the same group, but this time as young adults.
The Secret Life of the American Teenager- Original mini-Coop plays a band geek girl who gets knocked up, and follows her life as she deals with being an expectant teen mother.
Kyle XY- A family takes in a strange teen named Kyle who has abilities beyond the norm, as the result of being a genetically engineered superhuman.
The Closer- Ooh, this one is hard, so I'll just cut and paste the imdb description: Deputy Police Chief Brenda Johnson (Sedgwick) runs the Priority Homicide Division (later "Major Crimes" division) of the LAPD with an unorthodox style. Her innate ability to read people and obtain confessions helps her and her team solve the city's toughest, most sensitive cases.
Prison Break (this is currently on Hiatus, but I think when it comes back, its a Monday show)- it started out as being about a brilliant architect who purposely gets himself arrested to break his brother, who's on death row for a crime he didn't commit, out of prison. But now its about him and his rag tag band fighting a government conspiracy.
Tuesday:
90210- A show about privileged teens in Beverly Hills.
Privileged- Again, deferring to imdb: A Yale-educated journalism major reluctantly becomes a live-in tutor for two spoiled grand-daughters of a Palm Beach cosmetics business magnate.
NCIS- agents of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service solve Navy/Marine related crimes.
Leverage- think A-Team meets Ocean's 11, about a band of thieves led by a guy who used to hunt them, who use their skills to become a modern day Robin Hood and his merry men, helping poor people get back at evil rich people who've done them wrong.
Law and Order: SVU- A detective squad in Manhattan handles cases having to do with sex crimes or children.
Fringe- imdb: A television drama centered around a female FBI agent who is forced to work with an institutionalized scientist in order to rationalize a brewing storm of unexplained phenomena.
Nip/Tuck- a show about a couple of Miami plastic surgeons and the crazy (and sexy, though sometimes disturbing) misadventures they get into.
Reaper (this doesn't start back up until March, but I'll toss it here anyways)- On his 21st birthday, this guy Sam learns his parents sold his soul to the devil (or rather, they made a deal before he was born, with the payment being their first born's soul), and now he's forced to work for the devil as a bounty hunter, capturing souls that have escaped hell. It sounds like an action show, but its more of a comedy.
Scrubs- I'll go with imdb's description: In the unreal world of Sacred Heart Hospital, intern John "J.D" Dorian learns the ways of medicine, friendship and life.
Wednesday:
Lost- survivors of a plane crash attempt to, well, survive on a strange and remote island full of danger and mystery.
South Park (this isn't on right now, but its a Wednesday show, so I'll include it here)- A cartoon about four potty-mouthed kids and the wacky misadventures they get into.
Thursday:
My Name Is Earl- ne'r do well Earl wins the lotto, only to get hit by a car right afterwards. He figures this is due to karma, so he makes a list of all the bad things he'd done in his life and attempts to make up for them and get rid of all the bad karma he's racked up.
The Office- The hilarious happenings at a paper supply company in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
30 Rock- The hilarious happenings behind the scenes of a weekly sketch comedy show. Eh, I like imdb's description better: Liz Lemon, head writer of the sketch comedy show "TGS with Tracy Jordan", must deal with an arrogant new boss and a crazy new star, all while trying to run a successful TV show without losing her mind.
Burn Notice- government spy Michael Westen gets burned/black listed and is stuck in Miami, so he uses his spy skills to help people in need (and supposedly make money since all his accounts were frozen when he got balck listed, but he never seems to accept payment!) all the while trying to figure out who burned him so he can get his life back.
Smallville- The adventures of young Clark Kent, before he was superman.
Supernatural- Basically, WoD: Hunter, the TV show. Its about two brothers who travel the country slaying ghosts, monsters, and other things lurking in the darkness.
Friday:
Degrassi: The Next Generation (the new season starts soon, so I'm including it here)- A continuation of 80s show Degrassi Junior High, it follows another generation of students at Degrassi.
South of Nowhere (this is almost over, but I think the final eps start airing soon)- A show about teen lesbians in LA.
Friday Night Lights- A heartfelt show set in the small Texas town of Dillon, where the most important thing is Friday Night high school football.
Battlestar Galactica- an interstellar warship leads a group of survivors, fleeing from the robotic cylons, and trying to find Earth.
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles- follows the adventures of John Connor and his mum in the time before Judgement Day.
Dollhouse (this starts up this week, so I'm including it here)- imdb: A futuristic laboratory assigns different tasks to its various residents, who then have their memories erased upon the completion of their assignments.
Psych- Shawn Spencer is an extremely observant young man who markets himself as a "psychic" for the Santa Barbara police deparment. So what he claims are psychic abilities are really just his keen powers of observation.
Monk- An obsessive-compulsive detective uses his keen powers of observation to solve crimes.
Sunday
Family Guy
American Dad
Robot Chicken
yeah, I'm not even gonna bother with coming up with descriptions for the above, other than to say they're funny cartoons.
Flight of the Conchords- two guys from New Zealand try to make it as a rock band in America, and hilarity ensues.
True Blood (its not on currently, but its a Sunday show)- imdb: The series follows Sookie Stackhouse, a barmaid living in Louisiana who can read people's minds, and how her life is turned upside down when the Vampire Bill, walks into her place of employment two years after vampires 'came out of the coffin' on national television.
Dexter (its not on currently either, but again, its a Sunday show)- I was gonna try and come up with something myself, but the imdb description is pretty succinct: A like-able Miami police forensics expert moonlights as a serial killer of criminals who he believes have escaped justice.
Entourage (again, not currently on, but its on Sundays)- imdb: Film star Vince Chase navigates the vapid terrain of Los Angeles with a close circle of friends and his trusty agent.
I know, could I watch any more TV shows? I'm gonna pull a Sydney Pollack and say the three hour long drama shows from that list you SHOULD be watching are Lost, Battlestar Galactica, and Friday Night Lights. I think the Office, 30 Rock, and HIMYM (Its the new Friends!) are the funniest sitcoms on right now. Scrubs is really good too, and I think it has more heart than a lot of these hour long medical dramas.
And if I had to recommend anything else, I'd actually go with Chuck, Leverage, and Burn Notice. I mean, they're all fun action/comedies, with a little bit of drama thrown in every so often. So its a little bit of something for everyone, and I don't think you can go wrong with that.
I have started watching Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Its a neat little cartoon where every week Batman partners up with a different superhero. Its kinda a crash course in DC comics history as well, showcasing a lot of the smaller heroes and villains. Like this past ep, which focused on the Green Lantern corps. I was aware of Mogo, the Green Lantern who was a living planet. But I didn't know about G'nort (who for some reason sounds talks like Woody Allen in this show).
Speaking of the Green Lantern, since I'm nowhere near as familiar with DC as I am with Marvel, what's with all these other corps? Like when did Sinestro start having other people with the yellow power rings? And Star Sapphire, was it always the case she had a violet (then why is her name sapphire?) power ring, or did they retcon it since she had similar powers to Green Lantern and Sinestro and they wanted to do a color theme, with each color representing an emotion they derive their power from? So Green is force of will, Yellow (Sinestro's corps) is fear, and Violet (Star Sapphire's corps) is love? But there's also the Red Lanterns, powered by wrath, Orange Lanterns, motivated by greed, Blue Lanterns, who are all about hope, and Indigo Lanterns, who are all about compassion. There's apparently also Black Lanterns, who have power over the dead? Was I totally unaware of this this whole time? Or is whole thing something totally new to DC?
I've been seeing bits and pieces of the Dark Reign storyline in the Marvel Universe. So there's a Dark Avengers now? I can see Ares being on it, but why are Sentry and Marvel Boy (Captain Marvel now) on it? Aren't they good guys? The rest of the team, its like the Thunderbolts, with Norman Osborn as "The Iron Patriot", Venom becoming Spiderman, Bullseye becoming Hawkeye, Moonstone becoming Ms. Marvel, and Wolvie's son Daken taking his father's mantle. I dunno, I always thought X-23 was the more interesting "child of Wolverine", but that might've been because of when she was all jailbait-y on NY-X.
Anyways,

Date: 2009-02-09 04:57 pm (UTC)Smallville I can't believe this cluster is still on.
Lots of crime shows and supernatural-powers shows (well and teen dramas ;P). Heh.

Date: 2009-02-09 05:29 pm (UTC)I think everything else is named after a character, the place where the show takes place, or event or concept it centers around (lost is about people who are lost, FNL is about friday night football, Privileged is about privileged chyx).
But heh, yeah, I guess the list is mostly shows about teens here or there, people solving mysteries, or people with cool powers. Or a combination of all three, in some cases!

Date: 2009-02-09 07:35 pm (UTC)I really don't know my green lantern, but as far as I can tell, the different colored lanterns are fairly new. The red just started appearing very recently (or people inexplicably started making a big deal about it recently).
The Sentry's a dark avenger kinda just cause he doesn't know anything else besides being an avenger. He's all "this is my home" when Osborn moves in, and just sorta sticks around. Captain Marvel, this one isn't much of a new guy, he declared war on humans a while back. X-23 doesn't work cause she's more of an antihero, while Wolverine's son is a bad guy, and he's in it just to piss off his dad.

Date: 2009-02-09 09:26 pm (UTC)So isn't Dark Reign just the Thunderbolts idea taken to the Nth degree then? Because I saw there was also a new group of Young Avengers (including a version of the Enchantress, but like young. Interesting...), some of whom even have the Thunderbolts symbol on their costume!

Date: 2009-02-09 09:39 pm (UTC)* - He writes like eleven different Avengers books, plus he did the whole Secret Invasion thing and the House of M thing. Which kinda sucks cause I liked him writing Powers and Daredevil and Ultimate Spider-man, and Powers has slowed to a crawl, he quit Daredevil, and Ultimate Spidey got stuck in the whole Ultimatum thing (though apparently it will continue, re-branded).
