Saw Quantum of Solace with the usual suspects today. It wasn't too bad. The action was kinda cool, but it was pretty skimpy on plot. It was pretty much shaky action sequences connected together by a few conversations that further the plot along. Though I did think the first outfit we see Gemma Arterton pretty hott. I mean, she had on knee high boots (always hott!), and it looked like she was wearing one of those skimpy half-trenchcoats with nothing on underneath. spcv('Nice!') But Olga Kurylenko was pretty hot too, but i've always thought so, even before she started doing movies.

Got an alumni e-mail from my HS yesterday. Apparently, they put up the fourteen minute video they made for the school's 150th anniversary gala this year up on the school's website. Basically, it was a vid of how the school is so great. Hey, it is, its the largest and one of the most prestigious Catholic High Schools in the country! They went over some famous alumni, and like I was telling [livejournal.com profile] clevemire today, I had no idear Vince Lombardi was an alumnus of my high school. Its the only high school in America to boast both a Superbowl winning coach and a World Series Winning manager (Joe Torre) amongst its graduates! Oh, and the real life Serpico as well. (You know, I've never actually seen Serpico?) Like what's so cool about your high school? Actually, when I was looking up what wikipedia had listed for its well known alumnus, I recognized one of my classmates names on there. I always thought he was kinda a joker, but he's apparently an emmy award winning composer (for his work on Pushing Daisies) now. Weird.

Anyways, I did find it cool that they're axing part of the parking lot for a new wing. (How very GT of them!) Though it didn't seem like that many students drove anyways. I mean, the drive in would be ridiculous due to the rush hour traffic, better to take public transportation! So it makes sense to give up some of that space for an addition to the building.

Oh, getting back to the movies, got the new Star Trek trailer (it was kinda cool, how it started, I totally didn't realize it was Star Trek at first), but not the new Watchmen trailer. But it seemed there were way more trailers than normal. I'm not really that interested in that new Will Smith movie Seven Pounds, but I do want to know what the hell its about.

Other movie talk. Saw Uptown Girls today before hitting the theater. I didn't know Chase from House was Brittany Murphy's love interest in that. Well, I didn't know he was in something other than House. And chatting over dinner, even though I think I haven't seen "One Crazy Summer", I apparently know a whole lot about it, since I can remember so many scenes from it.

Shaky Cam

I think the shaky cam should be banned. Granted, I grew up on a steady diet of ballet-esque action sequences that HK directors like John Woo are famous for, so that might be the reason.

The plot was indeed quite lame. There's a secret organization that was oh-so-secret, yet not really developed. There was the "is he doing for duty or for revenge?" angle that was also never developed. Even their twist was not a very good one (they made it too obvious what is was not, and so there was only one other plausible answer.) Even if they were trying to hold back some stuff to link it to the next movie, they failed miserably in that aspect.

I liked Casino Royale, and I would say Quantum of Solace (stupid name too) was a letdown.
