Monday night TV commentary, part deux:

On Heroes, it seems no matter what they do, the future is gonna end up being effed up. As I was commenting to [livejournal.com profile] isabel79, I'm surprised they haven't started going that route, that no matter what they do, there's gonna be an apocalypse or genocide or whatever, and all Hiro and Peter have been doing going back and forth in time is changing how it happens. Or maybe that's the point, and the whole Nathan religious conversion, and mentioing someone special being out there who will fix everything are the keys to getting the future "right"- like the reason things keep turning bad is that they need that special someone to be the one to fix it.

On HIMYM, I think one of the issues with going forward with the BrOTP is that if Barney is all in love with Robin, how can he continue to being a womanizing jerk, which is one of the most amusing aspects of his character. Yeah, he can change, but that's an endgame sort of thing for the show. While I would like them to end up together in the end, because they seem to be perfect for each other, I'm not sure how having Barney turning into someone devoted to a single chick, Robin, would work for his character right now. He just wouldn't be the same Barney people not into all that pairing stuff know and love.

But they seem to be striking an intriguing balance right now. While he is totally gaga for Robin, I find it interesting that they make the whole womanizing and sleeping around so much a part of him that he can do both, and not realize how totally screwed up that is. I'm sure he'll come around eventually, but I think show wise, it has to be a slow change.

On Terminator, I'm a little skeptical about Chrome Artie (Or rather George Lazlo)'s blatant Beastmaster rip-off (I think one of those scenes was a straight word for word copy of the first Beastmaster movies) getting a resurgence in sales just because he slaughtered a bunch of cops in a bloody shootout. Then again, a massacre like that would be pretty big news, and I guess I can see people suddenly watching this movie just to know more about this actor who just lost it like that.

I'm curious if that will be an issue though. Given how much press he's been getting lately, I wonder if that will start thwarting Chrome Artie's efforts to kill John Connor, because people will be all, "That guy looks just like George Lazlo!" But getting back to his kill John efforts, was the way things played out his plan all along, or were some of those just contingency plans? Like if John didn't show up, he'd go with plan B, but how did he know to have the bug set up for when Sarah called to warn John? Though I guess its no skin off his back to have the bug be there in case John didn't show up.

Or did he know that what he did was an obvious enough trap that Sarah would make sure John was nowhere near there? And he could not be sure how many guardians John had, so the whole disabling their truck while they went to check on Penny Widmore to prevent them from protecting John does seem like a weak plan also, because as they said he coulda easily just kill them all instead of playing games like that, and he couldn't be sure that Sarah wouldn't come alone, leaving the possibility for other people to be around to protect John. But it seemed they figured that part out too late, and that his plan all along was to make it look like an obvious trap so John wouldn't come, splitting up his protectors, and then making it look like his plan was to get them away from John, just so Sarah would call, and thus Chrome Artie would be able to track John. Because the other flaw with them thinking that he was just trying to strand them out in the desert while he went after John is, he didn't know where John was, so even if he lured them out there it didn't actually help him until they tried to warn John. So if that was his actually plan, those Terminators are like psychological geniuses or something.

Geez, are they still on this Quentin thing on OTH? Yeah, its sad, but two eps where people memorialize him is a bit much. I mean, you usually have the one ep where everyone gets hit hard, and then there's a couple of eps after where people are still hurting, or there's some plot stemming from the aftermath of a character's death. So the Ravens are going to play a man down the rest of the season?! I would think Q would want them to win the championship, not tank their chances to memorialize him by having no one take his place. Then again, without Q, it seemed they had no chance anyways, so maybe this a way to at least turn their inevitable losing season into a nice little memorial for their dead friend.

Ah, and I'm guessing Victoria's weak claims that Brooke is being paranoid is a confirmation that she hired someone to break in and rough the person at the store up, not knowing it would be Brooke and not Millie there? The retarded thing about it is its totally obvious she had something to do with it because of the stolen sketches. Its like a guy is going to break in, and steal money, a computer, and some random sketches? The only way he would know they were worth anything is if someone like Victoria put him up to it.

And if that indie rocker dude (Mick Wolfe? Nick Wolfe?) really is Peyton's dad, its kinda jerky to play around like that. If you're her father, just say it! Why play around all, "Maybe I am, Maybe I'm not!" That's just cruel.
