Just watched the fourth season finale of Doctor Who. It was both awesome and so sad.

It was cool how they got everyone together to fight back- in addition to Captain Jack and Torchwood, Rose, Martha, and Sarah Jane Smith, Mickey and Jackie show up to save the latter from the predicament she was in at the end of last ep. Hmm, did Rose know she made Captain Jack immortal? I guess not, given how surprised she was to see Jack was alive, but the Doctor neglected to say it was her doing.

But I find Davros' observations interesting. For all the Doctor's talk of trying to save everyone, all his companions were not only willing to sacrifice themselves but the whole freaking world. I guess if it was just themselves it would be somewhat easier for the Doctor to swallow, but since their respective plans involved a huge explosion that would most likely exterminate the human race, he wasn't too pleased. But judging how sad he looked as the flashes of all the people who sacrificed themselves for the Doctor throughout the series went through his head, I don't think he would like any of them sacrificing themselves, even if they didn't wipe out the humans in the process to defeat the Daleks.

But I did think it brilliant the way you could see subtle differences between the two Doctors, and Catherine Tate did seem to do channel the Doctor quite well. Same for David Tennant copying Donna's mannerisms as well.

Owel, it was kinda prosaic that it turns out Dalek Caan manipulated everything to exterminate the Daleks because he was sickened by what they had done throughout history. Still it was the Doctor whom Davros named the Destroyer, even though it was clone Doctor who wiped out the Daleks again.

I was definitely amused by the Doctor and Rpse seeing Gwen and recognizing her since she was the spitting image of her ancestor (ha!). Of course, I'm also amused that she and Ianto basically spend the ep stuck in a time bubble. Oh, and Daleks screaming in German was also hilarious!

But dropping everyone off, I found it interesting how different Sarah Jane's second goodbye was. The first (well second) time around, she was kinda depressed- she knew she was past the time for adventuring with the Doctor but she knew she had to get on with her life. I'm not sure if its because she has her "son" now, but she couldn't leave fast enough.

And I guess they're setting up Martha to join Torchwood. But wait, is Mickey joining also? I forgot he only stayed in the parallel universe because his grams was still alive, but given that version of grams was dead now, having lived a full and happy life, he was ready to return to the "real" world.

So after all the happy goodbyes, you get the one two sucker punch of the Rose and Donna goodbyes. We get closure to the Rose-Doctor romance. This second doctor has the same memories as the Doctor, but personality wise, he's closer to Ninth. So he kinda needs Rose to temper him, to mellow him out and pull him away from all that fire and vengeance that stemmed from being in the middle of an insane apocalyptic war. But at the same time, its so weird. He's a copy, which is in one way good, because he's more human and thus can grow old with Rose and thus have a true relationship with her. But again, it kinda doesn't feel like him to Rose. Though it does seem close enough. And it must kill the Doctor- Rose gets to live out the dream, but he has to sit there and watch while a hybrid clone gets to love the woman he loves and live the "happily ever after".

And then if it couldn't get any more depressing, it seems like its back to normal, Donna and the Doctor flying off to have more adventures, but the hybridization is too much for her. And given she has the Doctor's mind, she knows what has to be done to save her. Its shades of River Song, she gave her life for the Doctor, because she didn't want to create a paradox and erase the adventures they were going to have. So just like River Song, she didn't want to lose those memories, forget all those adventures. But the Doctor cared about her too much. And unlike with River, there wasn't the potential for a paradox. Plus Donna burning out wasn't necessary to save a bunch of people like with River. She'd accomplished what she'd need. She didn't need to die at that point. So she was back to the way she was before they met- a little more annoying and flighty, but it is hysterical that it ties into her history, just like she missed out on the last two Christmas invasions, this is just one more invasion she somehow skipped.

Still, its sad, because their adventures made her into a better person, and as her gramps said, it sucks that that new Donna is gone. For everybody. I'm sure her family is sad that they lose this more confident, "good"-er Donna. But I think it sucks more for Donna. I mean, that would really suck to forget all those adventures. Sure, people across the universe sing songs of her adventures and how she's saved so many. Death might be preferable to forgetting all those adventures and going back to a normal boring life. Of course, Rose was supposed to be "stuck" in that parallel dimension with no hope of ever seeing the Doctor again, but we saw how that turned out. So, who knows, mebbe there's hope for her. Of course, since River's tight lipped about Donna, it doesn't seem like it, but who knows?

And seriously, what's with that huge ass ring on her hand that kinda looks like the Master's ring that was picked up by some chick's hand at the end of Season 3? Are they just trying to mess with our heads? I mean, its fairly prominent on her hand, and I don't think I've noticed it before.

Just watching Swingtown now.

I wonder if Janet's commentary on her typing speed is a foreshadowing- Roger is thinking of going to an engineering school to finish his education, but he's hesitant because he has to support the family. I wonder if Janet is gonna pick up a job through the plethora of contacts the Deckers have?

And how hilarious is that that Bruce is confiding in Roger about kissing another woman. Well, this is after he told Susan, but still, I'm sure this isn't the kinda thing Roger wants to hear! Nothing like having to hear the husband of the woman you're in love with tell you about how he's straying towards infidelity! I do kinda feel bad for Roger, I'm sure he took it as an insult when Bruce tried to steer him from the stockbroker thing. But I think Bruce was legitimately trying to do him a favor- I think it takes a certain kinda of person to do that kinda job. And its so risky! If Roger thought he was unhappy at the insurance place, I can't imagine how he'd function at the exchange.

But thankfully, Janet and Trina seemed to mend things rather quickly. I'm glad for that, because I like their interaction together. I think they could be really good friends if given enough time.

Heh, I'm not sure which is worse for Laurie, potentially getting caught about to eff her teacher, or realizing that her parents brought another couple home to possibly swing with given how flirty they're being. And then lighting up?! She's in hell indeed!

Speaking of being grossed out, I find it hilarious that when Ricky suggests playing Spin the Bottle, the girls all groaned. Well, given that the basement was initially full of gamer geeks, its no surprise. Neither was Ricky getting Sam from the bottle spin. So wait, are they implying he does have a gay crush on BJ? I guess it is telling when he practically mauls Sam to prove his manhood when she implies she knows how he "feels" about BJ.

Heh, is it me, or was their a hint of disappointment when Janet finds out Tom and Trina closed their marriage? Oh, but OMG, Tom kisses her! And she's totally flustered. Hmm, Trina and Janet just got back to friend mode, I wonder how Trina would actually feel about this development? Would Janet and Roger be okay for them to open their marriage to? Given how Tom kept mum on it, I'm definitely curious how she'd react. On the one hand, she's wanting to get Janet out of her shell, but I'm not sure if she wants to put Janet on that track. As I've said before, I think there's a bit of envy of Janet's normal life there.

Still, its definitely not Janet's bag given how quickly she grabbed Roger and got out of there. I think she's still totally conflicted over the whole thing. As she's said, she's not good with change. Its kinda sad how she didn't think anyone would be interested in her. Granted, she isn't as pretty as Trina or Susan, but she's definitely cool as hell. Well, not cool in the common meaning of the world, but she's not as stuck up and stuffy as people think she is. Actually, I kinda think of her as the kinda person Taylor Townsend would grow up to be, well, if Taylor wasn't such a sexpot.

Owel, but talk about a "downer", nothing like catching your daughter with her teacher to kill the mood when you're about to swing with another couple. And how weird an image is that for Sam and BJ to get back to, a bunch of half clothed strangers running out of the house in a rush. But interesting, this development with Laurie seems like it may be regressing Bruce to the old patriarchal kinda guy from the "previous" era, given how HE has to think about what HE's going to do about the family.
