We are far too young and clever
May. 5th, 2008 08:37 amI think the roomie is almost done with the GTA IV story missions. I'm pretty sure he had only one or two to go before the final story arc. Its cool they have more gun battle type sequences in the game. There's a Heat-style bank robbery, a Clear and Present Danger-style convoy ambush (and that's you being ambushed, not doing the ambushing) that you have to run and shoot your way out of and some other insane shoot-out sequences.
But it seems to me there are way more missions than the previous ones where you're at a rundown factory, an abandoned powerplant, a shipping yard, a fancy hotel, a chinese restaurant, the projects, etc, and basically you just shoot your way through a bunch of guys to get your hands on some money/contraband or to assassinate someone.
I mean, there's still chases, but one thing we've noticed, a lot of times when they say "chase someone down and kill them", you can't actually kill them while they're in their vehicles. Like there's this one mission where you chase some bikers into the subway. Or this other mission where your gay friend makes you take out his lover's boat for a picnic on the water, and some guys try to take you out. You basically have to chase them down for a while until some "kewl" in-game sequence occurs (like one of the bikers smashing into a subway train head on, or the baddies on the boat taking out a police boat) and then after that point they'll be killable. And more often than not, they crash their car or decide to run off on foot, and that's when you can shoot them down.
So basically, the objective is really to keep up with them, so you needn't bother with actually trying to kill them. One big clue telling you you can't kill them yet is when the vehicle moves impossibly fast while still being able to perfectly weave through traffic. Don't stress trying to drive and shoot at the same time, you just need to keep up until you get to a certain point. I guess they did this so you couldn't just get lucky and kill them within 5 seconds of the chase starting. That way they force you to go through an insane chase sequence through the city.
Friday night TV commentary:
So in the latest BSG ep, we make up for the lack of the Demetrius last episode. I mean, the only thing really going on in the fleet is Tyrol shaving his head and becoming suicidal, trying to choke out Baltar for presuming what Cally would want for him, and then Baltar visits him in his quarters to ask for forgiveness about that offense, which Tyrol does give.
Anyways, on the Demetrius, we see Mathias, Hot Dog (geez, are Racetrack and Skulls the only recurring named pilots left in the fleet?!) and Jean Barolay (is she the only Caprica Buccaneer/Original Caprica Resistance fighter besides Anders still alive? I ask that as if anyone else reading this besides me could actually answer that) are part of the crew also. Geez, how many people did they send on this mission?
While flying a CAP, they bump into Leoben in a highly damaged heavy raider. So I guess some of the Natalie faction survive Cavil's ambush? He's all "Cylon civil war" and wants Starbuck to hook up with their fleet to figure out the whole Earth thing. Obviously, everyone else distrusts the toaster. Especially once his heavy raider explodes, killing Mathias! (Oh no! She was like the only named Marine they had left. Or at least the longest recurring one) I'm kinda disappointed about that. It was kinda cool that the recurring Marine they had was a chick. But after being in the major s3/Razor firefights and surviving (the mission to blow up the old base ship with Kendra and Starbuck, the New Caprica Rescue, the mission to the infected baseship, the algae planet/eye of jupiter thing), she dies from an accidental(?) exploding Heavy Raider?! So I'm disappointed, but not as mad as I would be if they killed off Seelix or Racetrack.
Heh, Anders, being all jealous, kicks the crap out out Leoben. Owel, as long as they don't have some weird cylon devil's threesome with their mutual lady love.
So in the end, while Helo pistol whipped Pike for his mutinous talk and outright insubordination, he refuses Starbuck's orders when she says to jump to meet up with the cylons. I'm amused she relieved him of command, made Gaeta new XO, and asked him to carry out the orders! HA!!! Helo is like one of her best friends, and if he refused, why would Gaeta, who hates her guts (especially since she came back from the dead) follow that order?! So it seems the only one on her side is Anders. It'll be interesting to see how that gets resolved.
