Dec. 5th, 2007 12:22 pmSo I was browsing Wikipedia, as I'm often wont to due, and was reading up on Webster for some reason. I'm a little skeptical about some of the info there. Apparently in the last ep, Webster and the cast somehow get transported to the future via Webster's computer game, and they meet up with Lt Worf from ST:TNG and Ma'am gets killed by a Klingon? Ah'm skeptical. 1) That's kinda dark, for a sitcom. And 2) I see no evidence of such a crossover on either Poobala or the the map Tommy Westphall's multiverse. One thing I didn't know about Webster was that the show was originally conceived of as a Alex Karras and whoever played Ma'am (his wife in real life as well) vehicle, kinda like football player marries rich socialite and highjinks ensue. But then the network saw the popularity of Emmanuel Lewis and wanted to put him in a sitcom, but couldn't give him his own straight out, so they tacked him onto their sitcom. Of course, he became the most popular part of the show and things were all tense amongst the cast members, since he apparently took over George and Ma'am(you know, I don't even remember her real name on the show?)'s show. Who knew these old sitcoms were full of such controversy!
Heroes talk: One thing I've wondered recently, why didn't they ever experiment on Adam? Its not like they didn't know what his power was. It seems a waste to lock him up all that time and not experiment with his blood. But its only when Claire showed up on their radar that they started thinking about seeing if her blood had curative properties!
With Peter's current power set, how is a fight between him and Sylar even a contest? Peter has so many ways to take Sylar out! He can play it hard, using tk, radiation, electric blasts, etc. Freeze time, cut his throat, develop his telepathic abilities to Matt's level and make Sylar do whatever. I was reading Peter's entry in the Heroes Wiki and didn't realize there are a few other powers besides Eden's that he's been exposed to that he hasn't manifested. I don't count Sylar's other powers, because that's an extra factor that complicates matters. I'm skeptical he can mimic the Haitian because I think the Haitian's interference is always on and he has to choose to let people use their abilities, rather than selectively shutting people off.
But Peter's definitely met Eden. And I don't think it has to be active for him to learn them. There's the whole starting to glow when he first meets Ted, but one can argue that Ted is always generating low levels of radiation or something. Same with Claire, since that's a passive power that's always on. No, I think the proof that he can comes from him learning Isaac's and DL's powers. He drew that stick figure drawing highlighting his first attempt to try flying after meeting Isaac, but not having being in the presence of him actually drawing something. One could argue its a weird coincedence. But the DL thing, DL was too busy dying from a gunshot wound to do any phasing, but Peter apparently was able to absorb his power. And as such, since Micah and Molly would be at the same "range" DL was at Kirby Plaza, he should have their powers too.
Anyways, if I were Peter, I don't think I'd neccesarily be a villain. I've said before I'd find such powers corrupting. But its not like I have any desire to take over the world (who want's the hassle?) or destroy it (I like life!) I'd just have fun busting heads in new and interesting ways. Like I'd definitely want to try the lift them up in the air and force choke them then fry them with a lightning bolt while they float there helplessly. Or use super strength to grab them by the throat and lift them up (what's with me and choking?) and then pumping them full of radiation. Sylar shows that telekinesis can be used in a way to slice through things, though pulling a Lucy from Elfen Lied is a little too gory for my tastes. Not a big fan of decapitation/dismemberment. Its so prosaic! Actually, phasing through someone's chest and pulling a Kano would be gory, but that does have a bit of a coolness factor to it. I also watch too many movies, because I'd prolly do an Emperor imitation when doing the force choke/lightning thing, or mimic the head priest guy from Temple of Doom when attempting to phase my hand through someone's chest to pull out their heart.
If I didn't want to be flashy, just freeze time or turn invisible and take people out unexpectedly that way. Is it disturbing that my focus on powers would be how I could use them to kick ass/kill? (Well, I wouldn't use mind control to make people hurt themselves, but I still might end up using it in corruptive ways.) But yeah, I'd only hurt bad people! So I think I'd end up being a political tool then anything. Well, depending on your political views, that might make me a villain. But hey, I'd totally be fine with America dropping me behind enemy lines to crush heathen terrorist hordes and other enemies of the state!
