Wednesday night TV commentary:

South Park: This whole imagination storyline has me curious if its a dig at shows like Family Guy and Robot Chicken with the random and obscure character references. Like, they're thinking, let's have an ep where we just have tons of random TV and movie references.

The Sarah Silverman show: Not a comment on the ep per se, but I know [livejournal.com profile] clevemire and someone else have expressed disappointment that Laura Silverman isn't as hot as she sounded like she supposed to be doing voice work on Dr. Katz, but I still find her kinda attractive. (was young Laura being played by Molly from Heroes?)

Bionic Woman: Yeah, I know Michelle Ryan is really British, so I find it hysterical that this whole ep was just one big excuse to drop her American accent and talk in her native accent under the guise of pretending to be a Brit. I was particularly amused when she would keep using the accent when no one was around, and Herc's all, "Why are you still using the British accent?" But he is correct in saying that its the hottest thing evar! Okay, its prolly not the hottest thing ever, but British (and Aussie) accents on chyx is up there in terms of hot things.

Pushing Daisies: Last night's Pushing Daisies had more singing! (This time, They Might Be Giants' "Birdhouse in Your Soul") Not as long as Kristen Chenowth's rendition of "Hopelessly Devoted to You" from a couple of eps ago though, so I guess that some consolation for those who don't like that sort of thing. (why not?!) I forgot Sylar's mom is another musical person, having played Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors. So I guess if Kristen gets to sing, Ellen Greene does as well.

Is it me, or did Pidge look frickin' creepy!? I guess prolly cause it wasn't a real bird, but they were trying to make it look like a real bird. In any case, I know its a show, but I'm skeptical that a bird could fly with a transplanted wing. You know how slow I am, I only now just realized that makes him the appropriate carrier pigeon for Charlie from Heroes (since her character here is one legged) and the one armed bandit (ha!). I was thinking of using a character reference for him like I did with Jayma Mays in the previous sentence, but I was drawing a blank. But now I rememeber some: thug in Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang who wasn't C-note from Prison Break? Or Ben's friend in s1 Felicity who dated Staci Keenan's hot blonde best friend on My Two Dads?

Actually, the references I just made under the cut have me curious. So its poll time! (Its a ticky box, so you can pick multiple ones:

[Poll #1077259]

Gossip Girl: So in this week's ep of Gossip Girl, Blair has a costume ball, while her mom has a Moroccan themed party to celebrate her company going public. And Dan's old friend Vanessa comes back. It looks like she's a relatively major character in the books, so I'm guessing we'll be seeing more of her? And just like TV Jenny isn't a brunette with a big chest, TV Vanessa doesn't have a shaved head. But she's apparently this show's Anna Stern?

Let's start with the adults storyline. So, Lily takes Rufus to Blair's mom's party to make Chuck's dad jealous. They're actually getting along and reminiscing, but Lily's disappointed her plan's not working. So, Rufus helps her out by full on kissing her in front of him. Of course, there's the beginning of the rekindling of sparks and Rufus not exactly making a play for Lily but he's also telling her not to be too broken up if Chuck's dad is still too dumb to see what a great catch she is, because she's still a beautiful person. Heh, he even says something along the lines of "beauty fades, but you've done a hell of a job of proving that axiom wrong" or something to that effect. So of course she's touched, but then Chuck's dad comes around so Rufus disappointedly leaves and she goes to Chuck's dad, but she does throw some sad, wistful glances his way.

Ah, I thought Nate's dad was an embezzler or something like Marissa's dad on the OC. Nope, it turns out he's a druggie, and being a scumbag, lets Nate take the fall when his mom finds the drugs.

On to the young folks! Anyways, it turns out Dan has a history with Vanessa. He told her he loved her before she moved away to Vermont, but she told him to take it back since she was moving, and he was crushed. But now she's back. Before that though, all he was worried about was Serena asking him to the Costume ball. Even though he thinks its lame, he still wants to go. But she calls and is about to ask him, only she hears Vanessa in the background. He stupidly lies and says its Jenny. Unfortunately, on Serena's side, Jenny walks in doing grunt work for Blair's ball. Which, wasn't she keeping up with Queen B last week? Now she's back to being subservient? Anyways, upon finding out Dan's a lying liar, she doesn't ask him.

So, he decides to see a movie with Vanessa, who's starting to make it clear she wouldn't be averse to exploring what he had talked about before she left. But then he sees on Gossip Girl that Blair and friends are looking for a date for Serena. So he lies to Vanessa, saying he totally forgot about a history paper he has to do, then rents a tux and crashes the party as a bold gesture to win Serena back.

Unfortunately for him, Jenny bumps into Vanessa, all pissed that Blair didn't give her an invite to the costume ball despite all the work she did. Vanessa tells her to crash it, and she knows a guy who can sneak her in. Jenny is successful, but Vanessa realizes she accidentally gave Jenny her house keys, so she sneaks in to find her. Dan finds Serena, explains the whole thing with Vanessa and being stupid for lying and they kiss! Of course, Vanessa walks in on this and is hurt! Dan goes after her but is unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, Blair's all pissed because she had this elaborate set up for Nate to find her and she'd give up her flower to him when he did, but his head is still mucked up with his dad being a druggie thing. Well, that, and still having a thing for Serena. After Jenny tricks Chuck onto the roof, locking him up there in his underwear, she runs into Serena in the bathroom. They were wearing similar dresses, and for some reason they switch masks, so when Jenny leaves, everyone thinks she's Serena. Nate grabs her and whispers that he still has feelings for her and kisses her briefly before Jenny runs away. Which, why is she running away? She's being a little too emotional considering she's not even one of Blair's real friends yet, so why's she acting so upset that Nate is stepping out on B? Blair grabs who she thinks is Serena, but snatches a diamond bracelet Jenny was lent by Blair's jeweler, and realizes Jenny snuck into her party when she wasn't invited! Blair's a little pissed at her insolence! She's also pissed at Nate for not even trying to find those clues to find her. She should dump him, she deserves better!

Dan also runs across running Jenny, but she outruns him before he ends up accidentally kissing his sister. He of course thinks its Serena, upset that he went after Vanessa. But again the show surprises by having them clear it up by the end of the ep rather than dragging it out for a few weeks. So thinks are cool with him and Serena. Then he gets home, where Jenny already is, everyone none the wiser. Vanessa's waiting, and they decide to just be friends.

In WO, still haven't gotten Lu Bu's PI yet. It seems un-possible, but people have done it in 1p! I'm disappointed that I'm not good enough to be one of those people. I accept that I prolly can't beat really hard games like the ps2 version of Shinobi, or Contra: Shattered Soldier, or the original Ninja Gaiden on the X-box, but if there was one game I was really, really good at, its the DW/SW/WO series. I mean, I've never not been able to accomplish the requirements for the 4th or 5th weapon in those series' games.

One silly thing I realized when I was putting attributes on weapons was that I could make multiple 4ths! Its like, duh! Rather than switching out an attribute to see if it works better, I could make a new 4th! I've only done this with Keiji and Musashi so far, who's weapons are currently bolt-flash-slay-brave-range-multi-might-agility and bolt-flash-slay-air-range-multi-might-agility, respectively. So I made another 4th switching out range and making it bolt-flash-slay-air-brave-might-multi-agility, giving them max damage. The range prolly doesn't matter to Keiji, but I think it does have an impact on Musashi. I guess if its a board tailored towards more officer killing, this weapon would be more appropriate, but a peon heavy board might be better with range.
