Oct. 4th, 2007 07:14 amAnother day, still too frickin' tired. I was thinking I could get to sleep before 11 last night, there was nothing at 10 (or so I thought) and I utilized the pause on the PVRs to build up some buffer time while I made lunch for today and got ready for bed (2 hours before I actually went to bed!) and then just fast forwarded through the commercials to catch up. Pushing Daisies at 8, Gossip Girl at 9, and then the recording of Bionic Woman. But then I remembered my cohort at work had mentioned that South Park and the Sarah Silverman show started up again, which I remembered right as SP was about to start, so recorded those too and watched them after Bionic Woman. I still haven't seen Tuesday's the Unit, and tonight is Smallville, Supernatural, The Office, My Name is Earl, 30 Rock and Its Always Sunny in Phillie.
I still think the first Pushing Daisies ep is pretty good. As for Bionic Woman though, if not for the BSG connection, I prolly would've written this show off as a bigger budget version of one of Sci Fi channels non-BSG shows. So in the beginning, Bionic Woman and her little sister are at a funeral and I'm thinking, "What the, who died?" Turns out the doctor did! He looked fine in the previous ep! Ha, I guess its just more retooling. And cool, Starbuck is still around.
You don't even have to ask, my favorite part of Gossip Girl last night was Serena and Sweet Knees (awesome, she's actually wearing knee socks in the particular scene I'm talking about) cat-fighting on the field in their field hockey uniforms. spcv('Nice!') Anyhoo, while Blair is clearly the hottest chick on this show (of course, I seem to have a thing for bitchy rich brunettes, if Summer Roberts and Brooke Davis are any indication) the outfits they have Serena wearing are just awesome. Even though they go to a private school with uniforms, I guess the school just cares that its a uniform, and not that the students (or at least the girls) wear the same ones. Which, that's not really "uniform" anymore, is it? But of the three main girls, Serena's spin on it is as Captain Awesome would put it, awesome. Could her skirt be any shorter? And apparently buttoning blouse buttons is an optional thing in her book.
So the start of the ep, I thought they were playing some weird "Glamorous" cover, but no, its Jenny and some other frosh girls doing a all girl choir version of it. HA! Serena manages to miss orientation though and to compound that, she runs into Dan who's still cooled towards her. She's all, "Don't tell me its over!" and he thinks she's still talking about them "breaking up" (even though they weren't really an item) but she's of course talking about orientation. Geez Dan, conceited much? Even worse, its clear Blair has declared war on her. As mentioned before, she roughs Serena up on the field, and when Serena can't take it anymore and tackles Blair, Blair fakes an injury to illicit sympathy from everyone else. Okay, that's kinda bitchy.
Also, Chuck follows Serena to the Ostroff center where Serena's little brother is staying. He and Blair incorrectly assume she's the patient there, and think Serena was really in rehab when she said she was in boarding school. Blair thinks this is some new ammo she can use in her war to destroy Serena and formulates a plan.
Apparently its college week, so there's some big mixer where the juniors get to meet with college reps. There's some weird interview thing where the guys are trying out to be ushers for particular reps. Dan wants to go to Dartmouth, Nate wants to go to USC, but his dad is forcing him to try for the Dartmouth spot, Serena wants Brown and Blair Yale.
Anyways, even though Dan rocks the interview, the Dartmouth usher spot is given to Nate, royally pissing him off and making him lose faith in humanity. Luckily for him, Rufus begs the school to let his son be part of the program. Turns out Lily is head of the planning committee. Surprisingly enough, she lets Dan be the head of the newly created refreshment service committee, while Rufus ends up playing the music at the event. We don't see how he manages this though, which I would've liked to have seen. I mean, while they've been all sarcastic towards each other but really kinda flirty, she's only recently hated Dan less. I figured it'd be a big issue to get her to allow Dan to come to the mixer, but apparently not!
Despite Lily's wishes to the contrary, Eric gets to leave the center so he can attend the mixer with his mom and sister. Jenny's at the event as well, and the two hit it off. Wait, I thought he was kinda gay? I guess he just seems kinda gay. They go off on their own and he tells her about his suicide attempt but not to let anyone else know.
Meanwhile, since its war, Serena is trying to tank Blair's chances with Yale. Dan disapproves, which of course makes Serena relent.
Anyways, at the party, while Dan was kinda pissed at Nate later because even though Dan is 2nd ranked in class and Nate is apparently as dumb as rocks, Nate got the Dartmouth position, that still doesn't stop Dan from giving Nate tips on how to impress this guy. But since Nate doesn't actually want to go to Dartmouth, and is not a prick like Chuck (speaking of, he switches usher duties with whoever had Princeton's rep because the Princeton rep is a woman, and he ends up nailing her of course) he encourages Dan to talk to the guy while he goes out to get some air. Nate's dad sees this and is royally pissed, but is unable to stop Nate from leaving.
While Serena has gotten ready to call a truce, Blair goes for the jugular, saying the charity they chose for the event to benefit was the Ostroff center, making a speech how it was chosen because one of their very own was a patient there. The Van DWs get all sick, thinking she's about to out Eric's suicide attempt. But no, she names Serena (since she thinks it is Serena) as a recovering drug addict, obviously tanking her chances with the other college reps. Eric tries to stop Serena, but Serena goes up there and takes the hit. Dan is even more disapproving (what a jerk!) but Jenny lets him know the truth, and Dan is touched that's she's willing to protect her brother like that even though it will ruin her college chances. After, Serena takes Blair aside and begs her to stop, that she gives up, and can they be square now? Blair's all no, because nothing Blair can do to her will make up for what Serena did to her, but she'll sure as hell try. So when Serena gets ready to leave all sad and friendless, Dan apologizes for being an ass and asks if they could hang out again. So she has that now at least.
Anyways, Eric tells Blair the truth about things, and for her part, she actually feels sick to her stomach about it. I guess she's not a total cold evil bitch. (I never thought that anyways!) Serena's fair game, but I guess accidentally messing with her innocent little brother is enough to guilt her into stopping the war?
The next day, Dan's all happy that he got to talk to the Dartmouth rep, who apparently also authored one of his favorite books? Nate's dad calls him for their morning run, and Nate is surprised to see the rep there joining them. Apparently, the dad talked him into it and claimed Nate's disappearance was due to "food poisoning". Knowing he just can't win, Nate grins and bears it.
Meanwhile, Blair meets Serena at Serena's secret hiding place in the park, showing they really were best friends. She reads Serena a letter she wrote but never sent about how her life was falling apart because her dad left her mom for a young model (who was male!) and that Nate was acting all weird, and now she can't talk to her best friend because she disappeared. They both have a long cry and call truce. Though I'm curious how long that will last!
Playing WO yesterday, I may have to revise my rankings and knock Musashi down to two. While weapon farming (doing wan castle and Shu 5-x on hard), saw that while Musashi's sword has a good range, its just not as good as the polearm guys. He'll still kill a lot of peons, but there'll be some left over, and behind him, which is bad. I guess the key is wisely using his attack strings. SSSTTT is good for charging through the ranks, but you don't want to keep on doing that once you're in the middle of a big-ass group on hard/chaos since its very forward focused. On harder levels the peons will gang up on you from behind, leading to a huge loss of vitality. So I believe one should start hacking through with his full S string or uses his TTT or SSTTT to get the hell out of the crowd and get some breathing room before charging back in. With fully maxed slay, might, brave, and air, if he kicks a general up with his STTT, its auto death for them though, which makes up for his weaker crowd clearing.
In any case, I like the look of his 4ths- his Wakizashi has a cool sword catching hook, and the main sword, which I assume is a reference to him beating Sasaki with an oar in real life, looks less like an oar and more like a mini version of a Guts big-ass sword (heh, is it confusing when I throw references out there and assuming people know what I'm referencing?). I especially like the etching on it. Though my favorite looking weapon so far is Honda's Tonbo-giri. I mean, its supposed to be a spear, but I love the design of the head, its very axe like as well.
Dang, I have not been able to stop whistling the whistling part of Peter Bjorn and John's "Young Folks" for some reason these past couple of days. Oh, finally went to Umezono's with the usual suspects after not having been there in a long while. They too noticed the long length of time since our last visit, but they did remember we got the katsu curry. So had that and an order of spicy tuna rolls. That's good eating.
