Its like acid reflux, but in my eye
Jul. 31st, 2007 01:45 pmJust caught the pilot for "Pushing Daisies". I'll admit, the concept didn't interest me at first, but after watching it, its a really interesting show that I'll definitely be checking out. My worry is that it might be considered a little too quirky. But that's where a lot of its humor comes from. Basically, its about a pie-maker (is there still such a thing? I mean, who just specializes in pies? That seems a bit limiting, if you ask me) who has the power to bring people back to life by touching them. But there are two caveats- if he touches them again, they're dead-dead, but if he doesn't touch them within a minute of resurrecting them (and thus making them dead again), someone else in close proximity dies. (I don't consider it a spoiler since its part of the show concept, but I guess it would spoil like the first five minutes of the show)
Things about the show- is it me, or is Kristen Chenoweth really, really short? I mean, I knew that already, but since the main character is like 6'3", its ridiculously apparent when they're standing next to each other. Also, I thought one of Chuck's aunts reminded me of Audrey from Little Shop of Horrors. That's because it was her! Duh! Oh, and Chuck, played by Anna Friel of Timeline fame (I would think there would surely be something better to credit her with that people would recognize, but that's the only thing I could think of off the top of my head) is wicked mad cute. But I've always been partial to fresh faced brunettes. I know, you're thinking, isn't she your age? Hey, I like chicks my age and older! I thought Fred from Angel was totally WMC, and she's exactly my age, as we share the same b-day. (And what's with me liking cute innocent-looking brunettes who are on TV shows where their character goes by a guy-sounding nickname) Oh, I also like how Chuck wears short trench coats that look like she might not be wearing anything underneath.
Anyways, there are a couple of interesting things they do there which I will actually put under a spoiler cut. I find the way they're keeping Ned and Chuck apart interesting. Being one of the people he resurrects, they can't touch. They of course, were each others first kiss and have a thing for one another. Though why doesn't he pull a Rogue and just keep as little of his body exposed as possible. Like wear gloves so they could at least hold hands or something. Or is it not even skin to skin contact, just touching? But if it is just skin to skin contact, like if he wore a condom, could they still have sex? (Hey, that's less perverse than the sick hymen comments people were coming up with for Claire on Heroes) I'm also skeptical he can keep his dog for all those years and not have accidentally touched him once!
But I digress. They also up the angst quotient by having Ned accidentally have killed her dad when they were kids- this was before he knew the rules. He had accidentally killed his mom by reviving a dead fly, and when he touched her, it ended up killing her dad. She doesn't know this, of course.
