Jan. 19th, 2005 08:44 amJust another day, about to space out. Hmm, from the shipping lists, nothing I read comes out at Oxford today. Though would it be tomorrow anyways, since Monday was a holiday for some people? So I might have a chance to actually play RE4 this afternoon. Its pretty popular right now. Like what's with the webcomix referencing it as of late? First Penny Arcade, now Chugworth? Ashley's no Rebecca though. Ha!
Anyways, it sounds like a different animal than previous RE games. I like the use of the Diablo style grid system for inventory(were they the first to use it, that's the first time I remember seeing such a thing). And supposedly you can expand it by purchasing bigger "briefcases" from the merchants. And I hear bullets are plentiful, which is a good thing. I noticed a difference in playing styles when watching
sparkyboy playing the RE remake over the break. When I played the games, I had to make sure every shot count because I couldn't suffer any of enemies to live (well, other than the birds, as killing the crows is just a waste of ammo). My brother prolly played it more correctly, avoiding fights if he could and killing only those that were in his way. Especially in the GC version as you had to pack lighter fluid to dispose of the zombies you killed lest they turn into the crimson head super zombies (which many have theorized is a evolution point between the regular zombies and the lickers) Its like, jeez, could they come up with more ways to take up your inventory slots? I mean, a weapon and ammo is 2 slots already, and then those puzzles require this item or that. Not to mention the keys!
But I digress. According to the Penny Arcade guys and a number of other reviews I read, you're encouraged to shoot it out more, and ammo is plentiful. I wonder if the undead respawn, because while games where you buy things are cool, I get a little carried away with them. I mean, I think many times, games sell something expensive at a store that they don't expect you to get right away. But being the paranoid person I am, I worry that they won't have it later. Which means tedious (well, not so tedious to me, I like mindlessly killing things) fighting to get enough money to buy it. Which also means my characters are almost always over-powered in these games, and end up tackling bosses at way higher a level than they expect you to be at at that point in the game. But that doth make things easier.
Owel, it was all repeats last night for GG and Veronica Mars so nothing to say there. GG looks new next week. And from the upcoming previews Rory might start seeing that one jack-ass. Its not unexpected though, they seemed to be foreshadowing that. Alas, no new Veronica Mars for a few weeks. And to turn into teeny-bopper girl mode for a minute, I'd like to see Veronica and Logan hook up. It would just make cents! Coincedentally, isn't the aforementioned jack-ass also a Logan? Who's really named Logan anyways? Were the parents Wolverine fans? SVU was new last night though.
Basically, you have this boy and girl who are twins. They're rich kids and the girl is trying to make a name for herself and impress the rich graffiti kids at her school by tagging some dangerous place. Anyways, she gets attacked but fights back and her attacker plunges to his death. That's how the ep starts. One of his cronies slits the throat of this deaf girl who he thinks was the girl attacked. Alas, she was only a witness, and before she died clued the cops in that the person attacked was graffiti-ing the wall. Well, she signed it to her attacker, who thought she was just being gimpy. But he showed the movement to them and they figured it out.
The kicker is, the DNA they found on the rapist was male. So all this time, they thought she was covering for her brother. Turns out she's a boy! Well, she doesn't know it, apparently there was some sort of circumcision accident (they use machines for that?!) and some doctor told them their best bet was a sex change operation. Only the doc had an ulterior motive, as he wanted to use it as a test case for a book he was writing because he believes gender is nurtured, not nature. And previous experiments were flawed he thought because people could not help but treat a boy like a boy or a girl like a girl, after all, they have boy and girl parts, respectively. So, to him this was some perfect case with the boy twin as the control and the one who was made a girl the experiment. Eventually, they tell the girl she's genetically a boy, because she was wondering why they were so sure it was her brother who was attacked. Later it was revealed that the twins were molested by the doc, as he would make them get into sexual positions (WTF?!!) to reinforce the male and female identities, which he chalked up to research. Seriously messed up!
But in the end, they pull off
clevemire's twin perfect-alibi thing to kill the doc. The girl one had decided to become a boy, so she stopped taking the estrogen and as soon as it was flushed out of his/her system so it wouldn't mess up the dna tests, they enacted their plan. They both go to a movie and make sure they're seen and keep the ticket stubs and all that. They wear the same exact parka, so the usher remembers one leaving, but obviously he didn't know which one. One of them is caught on security video going to the doc's office and they even spit on his dead body so DNA evidence would be left behind. So, they have no idea which one did it, and I don't think they can get them on conspiracy either. I mean, many twins dress alike so its not like they can say they did that on purpose to prevent them from being identified. I guess one is covering up for the other, but they don't know which. I don't think they could charge them both with the murder, because then they both could claim they did it and say their brother is just trying to protect them by saying they were at the movies together the whole time and didn't know he was going to go there and kill the doc and had nothing to do with it. Putting them back at square one. I think they would be hard pressed to convict one or the other or both.
