Aug. 9th, 2004 05:15 pmSaw Collateral today. It had a cool style to it, but there were too many glaring problems for me to totally enjoy it. People just kept on disappearing or were too oblivious. It kinda jives with Vincent's whole no one cares/everything is meaningless/nothing matters belief. But there are times where it just doesn't make cents. The first example is when Max is tied up in the cab, and he gets the attention of those muggers. There's like four of them, but when Vincent comes out, there's only two of them! Then at the club, the fed guy gets shot, so they bring him over to the corner to cover him, but when Vincent and the asian dudes and Felix's guys start shooting it out, the feds are all gone. They cannot have just abandoned trying to get the witness out/capture Max-Vincent just because one of them got shot. If they got killed by vincent, or the two criminal groups, I would understand, but they were just gone. And the clubbers should have reacted much faster than that. Vincent killing/maiming those guys with his barehands, I can understand the clubbers not doing anything. I'll even give them the ignoring the guys with badges and body arming carrying assault rifles, but when the bodyguard's gun started going off, the place should have cleared out then. But it was like almost a minute and more gunfire had to go off before they started running. And then at the end in the subway, what the hell is the driver of the train doing. Is he deaf?! And the whole thing with Vincent asking if people will not notice his corpse like that guy he talks about in the beginning. WTF? I can understand people not noticing a guy who died of natural causes and looking like he's just asleep. People are going to notice someone with two bloody gunshot wounds on his face and chest, even more so given he's sitting next to a shattered window and door full of bullet holes. And what did the passengers do after all this? No one dialed 911 on their cellphones or on a payphone at any station?!
Oh, and movie logic dictates if you steal someone's cellphone, they will only have five minutes of battery power left, so that it will die on you during a critical point. Is it me, or do those glasses really work for Robin, and I don't mean make her see better. In any case, the piano only version of the theme song sounds pretty awesome. Maybe, they'll say why later, but why the hell did they not get replacements for Amon and Robin after the attack on their HQ. Its like, the only field operatives they have left are the psyhic chick and the girl who goofs off. Even if they got back Sakaki, he's a rookie! Its like these are the kinda people they want hunting people who can crush cars with a thought or fling them all the way down an alley? Its obvious they needed fire starter girl and brooding bad ass guy. And is it me or is Amon somewhat similar to Michael from La Femme Nikita.

Date: 2004-08-10 05:41 am (UTC)At the beginning of the show, Robin was a replacement for one of their previous hunters who was [I believe] killed. What I don't think they made incredibly clear though, was that Robin showed up about 6mos or more after that member was killed.
I think for starters, they don't easily or quickly get replacements for downed or otherwise incapacitated hunters. And I also think there's another reason for why they didn't replace Robin and Amon besides just that, which you'll understand (hopefully!) at the end of the show (it can be construed as a spoiler possibly, so best not to say anything specific on it).
