Just another average Weds, dinner at Mama Fu's with the roomie, a trip to Oxford, and Wednesday night TV.

An amusing ep last night. Enjoyed the self-parody, with Colin Hanks essentially playing Adam Brody. Though I guess if you're not a hard core fan or at least one of those people who keeps up with the behind the scenes of the show, you might be a little lost. So, that scene in Grady's Escalade where he puts the moves on Summer and she rejects him and then Seth and April scene show up, are they saying Rachel and Adam are indeed dating in real life? Or are they just making that joke because many people think they are dating in real life even though the two say "they're just hanging out and they're just really good friends"? But I liked all the other self-references also. And suprisingly, Paris Hilton wasn't too bad. I was a little skeptical when I saw she was gonna be on, but it worked.

I know I usually seem to think there's more gay and lesbian subtext between same sex friends on TV shows than there actually is, but seriously, is it me or does Luke seem like he has a guy crush on Ryan?! I mean, Seth and Ryan, that's a very brotherly thing they have going. But ever since Luke and Ryan became friends, its like Luke has a thing for him. I mean, there was the being all supportive during the whole Oliver-Marissa thing, going so far as to offering to beat up Oliver if Ryan said the word. Then he dumps Julie at Ryan's request. When he failed the first time and heard that voicemail from Ryan, he seemed so worried that Ryan would be disappointed in him. And then being so excited in the end to tell Ryan he was done with Julie that he spills the beans in front of Marissa.

And seriously, who is that careless?! The only thing I can think of was that he couldn't wait to tell Ryan so he could get approval from his guy crush! And at least Marissa knows now, I was wondering how long they were gonna keep it on the down low. But what, are they doing the anti-OC now, life sucks for her so she runs away to Chino?! And wow, Theresa and Eddie will be back. Surprising. I thought after the last ep that would be the last we'd see of them for a while.

Oh, and the OC is coming out on DVD later this year. And apparently its gonna be a 27-ep season? That's long! Though I guess technically the first few eps in the summer should count as like a pre-season trial sort of thing. I can't wait!

I think it's supposed to be 26 eps (which is why cable is 13, half of that)... but with shows like 24 and the like going to 24 eps or 22 eps... they've made it a little more flexible.

CSI seasons are all 23, which is just a hella weird number.

Even going back to the 80's, seasons ranged from 22 to 26 (Cheers, for example, ran 22, 22, 25, 26, 26, 25, 22, 26, 25, 25, 25 in it's 11 seasons). 30 minute shows tend to be near the high end, and hour shows tend to be near the low end (a quick check shows the first season of ER was 26 episodes, followed by 9 consecutive 22 episode seasons).

I think the actual number is tied to how many ideas the writers come up with, and how many occasionally get shot down by the network.
