Feb. 16th, 2004 10:33 amOwel, with David out for training, I'm stuck here all by my lonesome. And as I always do when I'm alone (since I can't stand quiet), I was singing to myself. For some reason Eric Carmen's "Make Me Lose Control" popped into my head. I remember when I first heard the song/saw the video. I was at
7500centfish and
isabel79's house. It was way early on a cool Saturday morning, and I remember liking the song because I had a crush on a girl named Jennifer at the time. As a tangent, her brother once confronted me in the schoolyard telling me to stay away from her. He was one of two guys I've went to school with who told me to stay away from their sister, the other being Danielle when I was a sophmore in high school. Strangely enough, both were fraternal twin brothers to these girls. But I digress.
Getting back to my story, watching that video at Theresa and Elizabeth's house. It made me reminisce about my younger years, sleeping over their house Friday night, staying up late and waking up early. Those were fun times. I was gonna say it seems so long ago, but then I realized that's because it was so long ago!
Speaking of old times, I was reading TWoP's OTH recap and it made me think, how did they grade you in gym? I mean, on that show Hayley was all stressing because she needed to sink a free throw to pass gym. Did they really do such things? It seemed to me the teacher just let us play and just gave us a grade based totally on his opinion. I mean, if they actually tested your skills, I can't believe I passed Volleyball, because I totally stink at Volleyball. I'm not too hot at basketball either, as
psyched_out can attest. I was a little better at softball, soccer, and lacrosse (but not that good). And for the life of me, I don't recall ever having to take some sort of test or drill.
Or mebbe that was just for the team sports. Track was pretty straightforward. Now track I can do. No balls to hit around or catch or whatever. Wrestling and Judo I remember also. Wrestling, we'd have to get into position then demonstrate some holds like the half nelson. Same for Judo. I remember impressing the teacher with my hip throw, but my partner helped a lot because he did a really good job of falling. We also had a one-minute sparring match to do where first to get off a throw wins. Besides the two guys in the class who were actually on the Judo team, me and the guy I sparred with were the only others whose match went the full minute. I so coulda had hum though, they way I was blocking his throws made it impossible for me to get off something like a hip throw, so I shoulda tried for something else. He woulda been so ripe for a foot sweep or an inner or outer leg reap, and he wouldn't expect it because the teacher actually didn't teach those moves in class. More useless Geebs trivia, this was the same guy who rode in the same limo as me for prom and left me to entertain his date while he went off to get high, then afterwards in the limo, he was hitting on Laura, undoubtedly inflating her ego even more, right in front of his date! Jerk! Of course, Ron left his date also to try and flirt with her, and I see now why she thought I had asked out her best friend to get to her. It seemed like everyone was trying to get with her.
But getting back to gym, I remember square dancing was pretty straightforward grade wise as well. Did anyone else have to do this for school? I know people I ask who went down here didn't, which I find strange. I mean, they're more likely to square dance down here than i am back in Queens! And just to show how everything ties together, I remember one square dancing test we messed up, this guy in my group, Mike blamed me, whereas I insisted he heard things wrong and it was him. And he was really worked up about it too, we were arguing in the lockerroom and he was like ready to punch me over it. Of course, he also hated me. So how is this things tying together? Well, one of things Mike ranted about after gym was the fact I got this mad cutie Diane as his partner, while he got some girl he didn't think was all that attractive. His partner? Laura! Hey, I thought she was quite attractive back then! In fact, I liked her before anyone else did. I guess she musta bloomed during junior year, because that's when it seemed like everyone else finally started noticing her. And I was slightly turned off of her because the attention made her a little haughty.
Owel, looks like I've killed enough time so that its lunch now. Time for food!
