More Superhot blather- One interesting thing I find about this game is, because time only moves when you move, there's this urge to take things slow and deliberate. Which is definitely necessary in some situations, like when you start with several enemies right on you.

Like there are times where I think, okay, some guys with assault rifles pop up here, I need to be careful and take things slowly to make sure I don't get shredded in a hail of bullets. But I've come to realize I'm actually faster than I think, and can easily run into cover ahead before they even start firing.

So really, the pace changes on the fly. Because sometimes you can just grab a sword and quickly rush in and cut a bunch of guys down without really utilizing the time stop feature. But you definitely can't do that all the time, because the game has a knack for having enemies appear behind you. So you always have to keep stock of your surrounding and not make sudden movements if you're unaware lest you eat a stray bullet.

As I said in a previous post, while there are slight variations in the enemy armaments sometimes, they more of less show up in the same spots. So if you know what's coming, you can adjust your speed on the fly. Which, I kinda like that staccato like pace, slow deliberate movements interspersed with quick dervishes of death.

Heh, there are some interesting trophies in this one, which I'll have to strive to get after I beat them. Some I've gotten accidentally- "Its Me, Mario!" is a trophy for killing a guy by landing on them. I was just trying to land behind the one guy and then hit him and take his gun, but I landed on him, netting the trophy. Another, I'm not sure how I got it, but was most definitely random is shooting a bullet out of the air.

I know there's one for taking down two guys at once with a thrown katana, one for cutting a bullet out of the air with the katana, and one for taking out three guys with one shotgun blast. Haven't had a situation where the bad guys were lined up for the last one- like I'll get two, but trying to wait for a third to get in range gets me killed. I'm sure there's some scenario where its easy to pick this one up.

More Superhot blather- Finally beat the game today. Which, how the frick did I go through this entire game not knowing you could jump!? But more on that later.

So, I actually hadn't gotten to the body switching mechanic since my last post. I think I remember [personal profile] clevemire mentioning it was a thing (and that switching bodies, the person who's body you go into automatically destroys their weapon) but temporarily forgot.

Its an interesting idea, but I don't think they do enough with it. I mean, since the weapon the body is holding is destroyed when you jump into it, you can't use it to like jump into the guy with the assault rifle behind the other dudes and gun them down. Which I would think is the main appeal of body jumping, quickly getting a weapon you want and surprising the enemy with it.

I would think the other use for it is to bypass certain obstacles, but other than the time the mechanic is first introduced where you have to hijack another body since you're about to fall to your death, there weren't any levels where you HAD to jump bodies to progress. Like I can only think of two levels where I utilized the body jump thing, but I'm not sure it was necessary.

One was a level where you start off with the katana and there's a guy on you with an assault rifle, and two guys on either side of you busting through glass doors. Like it seems like there's too many on you at once that you need to body swap, but I think the level can be done without it. I mean, I ended up cutting the guy on the left down with the katana, and then jumped into assault rifle guy to get some breathing room. But my unsuccessful tries, I cut left fuy down and made it into that alcove, and honestly, I'm sure if I really tried I could kill everyone without having to body jump.

The other level you start off on top of a truck and the thing to do seems to jump into a guy you see in what I assume is supposed to be a guard station, and grab the shotgun off the table next to him, and then go from there. I bet I could just jump on the guard below me and playing it smart, take out everyone without having to have body swapped.

Like, if they were going to have this mechanic, you'd think they'd do stuff where like you could only progress by body jumping to a guy on the other side of a locked gate so you could move on.

But yeah, getting back to actual jumping, I mean, I guess there were no levels where I needed to jump, but when I was looking into these secrets buried in the levels, many of them necessitated jumping. Like in the very first level, I heard the way to the secret is to jump off the railing to the floor below to find a computer terminal. And I was like, how the hell do you jump off the railing? I was expecting some gap that I could just fall through, I didn't realize you could jump over the railing by pressing L2.

Anyways, those secrets are bullshit, there's no way anybody could find them on their own, and anyone says so is an effing liar. I mean, it already requires leaving one guy alive so the level doesn't end, and if you can destroying all the weapons so he doesn't shoot you in the back while you're fooling around. So that makes it difficult to explore on your own.

But yeah, like the first level, you might notice a floor below and get the idea to jump the railing. Or the second, notice the objects next to the building make a convenient jumping stairway to get to the roof. So maybe, if you manage to get the last red guy off your back, you might have time to check it out if you didn't know something was there beforehand.

The third one though, the one where you're in a hall, and there's two guys shooting you at the end. You normally take it slow, dodging their bullets until you can make it to the pistol in the middle of the hall to grab it and shoot them. Now, knowing that levels have secrets, you may elect to kill one, throw your pistol at the other. Then grabbing the dead guy's pistol and throwing that at the bad guy so he's stunned again and can't pick up the pistol he just dropped (or if he picked it up, cause him to drop it again), then pick up THAT pistol, and throw that at him, destroying all the handguns so you don't have to worry about being shot at.

At that point, you only have to worry about the guy punching you, so you can jump through the open window at the end next to the two shooters. After that though, it doesn't seem like there's anywhere to go, so you have to somehow guess that you need to jump off the ledge, but immediately move right so as to go through the wall to the secret corridor.

And its like, how the hell are you supposed to know that on your own?! Actually the second level secret is like that too. You make it onto the roof in order to drop down to a narrow ledge behind the building that you normally can't get to. The ledge leads to a dead end, and you're supposed to somehow know to jump off the end but then pivot in mid air to get around the wall where the ledge ends. Again, how is someone supposed to figure that out on their own?!

If you have a secret in a game, it should at least be something you could possibly figure out on your own without help from a faq. Though I guess someone who is exploratory minded might jump around ledges and try to jump through walls to see if they're fake or not. But who does that on their own?

Anyways, the "secrets" so far are computer terminals that you interact with to open up a chat with the mysterious red text guy and ask questions which I guess enlighten you about things.
