Dec. 16th, 2012 04:39 pmMass Effect blather- I'm really enjoying this game, though if there's one mark against it, its that xp and money aren't infinite. Well, technically, you can always try and earn money through gambling, but it would be incredibly inefficient. But since enemies don't respawn, there aren't areas you can go to and continually kill stuff to get xp and money and drops. Then again, I suppose that's what new game+ is for. Its kinda the same, only instead of being able to "take a pause" during the story and go some place and just kill enemies over and over for stuffs, you're redoing the story over. Which may be less monotonous, since you get to change how you interact with people, so you can go through several playthroughs and it be a different story each time. Especially since your charm/intimidate scores will be higher, allowing you options you weren't able to do before.
Also, since the enemies' levels are based on your current levels (or higher, on the higher difficulties), as far as I can tell, the rewards "keep up" with you. I guess that makes sense, since you have huge freedom on which order you do things. So I think if you NG+, the rewards for the first few missions are commiserate with your current level. Which is one mistake I've made already, if I saw something really good in a store, I bought it if I could afford it and still have more than 1/3 to 1/2 my money left over. (Though I would blow everything if they have a lot of good stuff) But since enemies are always dropping something usable, you should save your money until you get a million credits. I could have accesses the spectre gear earlier if I had!
I had also gotten all the licenses when I saw them, but since the Normandy quartermaster only has a set amount of "things", if you have all the licenses, the chances of the really awesome stuff showing up is lowered, since there's all that other stuff clogging up the percentages. After you unlock Spectre gear, it sounds like you want licenses like Kassa (for the Colossus armor line) and Geth Armory (since their Krogan armor looks so bad-ass) So I hear you should only get the "good" licenses so the better gear has a higher chance of showing up. Well, and the Elkoss Combine license since that will help you get one of the war assets in ME3. So at the very least, don't buy all the licenses (which you have to buy again each playthrough) until you're on a playthrough where you have everything you want.
Also, I was disappointed to learn you can't change your class in new game+. Owel, I'm fine sticking with my soldier-commando. Tech skills and biotics are cool, but I'm fine with letting my squadmates handle that stuff. Heh, I had picked the commando specialization, because it ups your weapon damage, but it also gives you bonuses on the pistol and sniper rifle special abilities, but I've been using the assault rifle and shotgun mostly. I wish I could use the sniper rifle more, but I hardly get the chance. My squad kills the opposition too quickly before I get a chance to line up more than a few shots.
But yeah, Tali's my go to girl for getting past electronics and decryption. She has it high enough to handle any object. I intend to get electronics/decryption high enough on Kaidan, Garrus, and Liara (well, she only has electronics) so as long as I take one of them, I can open anything. So unless I decide to use a squad of Wrex and Ashley (which wouldn't be wise, since I'm playing a soldier), we should be good. Of course, I also can't just use a combo of any two of Ashley, Tali, and Garrus, as that would leave me lacking biotically.
Which speaking of, I've been playing mostly with Wrex and Tali. And Wrex has some biotics, but since I had to take Liara (well, I didn't HAVE to) to Noveria since you confront her mom (as I've said before, I'm amused Councilor Troi and Aeryn Sun are her parents) there, I didn't see what a biotic could truly do.
