MK stuff: Is it me, or do the characters with a "capturing" move like Scorpion or Subzero have a significant advantage over the other characters? I mean, being able to unleash your best combos (or an x-ray attack) while the enemy is helpless gives you an easier time at things than characters who have no such ability. Particularly considering how cheesy the game gets, being able to freeze the enemy gives you a much needed respite.

DW7 stuff: heh, watching TV right now, there was a commerical that reminded me of a neat little design conceit they did with Gan Ning. So in RotK, Gan Ning was known for wearing bells to let his enemies know he was coming in order to freak them out. And if you play as him, he does jingle as he walks around. Of course, it is a little silly in some of the missions he's in where you're supposed to be sneaking around. Also, I still find it odd that many DW fans are still clamoring for Sha Moke to become a character, when as far as I can tell all he did was have a bad-ass description of him in the books and kill Gan Ning. (and even then, he got killed soon afterward!)

TV commentary:

Community- I know some Jannie fans were upset, but I thought the show's little joke at their expense was in good fun. I don't think it was that dismissive of the ship.

Nikita- Heh, I'm amused the new dynamic of this show is Michael and Nikita as the "parental" types with Alex as their "kid". And they actually made Jaden more interesting! I do like how the ep played out though, with Alex deciding to stay in Division, because they can do "good work" at times, but Nikita being satisfied because Alex sacrificed her chance to escape to save Jaden, despite their problems with each other. Too bad Jaden, despite heroically telling Alex to blow the place with her in it, is also pretty self-serving. And now she's an full agent, with Percy liking her "initiative" in getting a sample of the nerve toxin.

Smallville- So this weeks comic guests of the week were Booster Gold and Blue Beetle (Jamie Reyes, though Ted Kord is also there, and the other Blue Beetle also gets a mention).

Supernatural- I thought this was a pretty entertaining ep. Particularly the way the Wild West was "grosser" than Dean was expecting, like with the homely, diseased, hookers. And the "Back to the Future 2" ending was hysterical.

Degrassi- Heh, so Claire does end up finally leaving Eli's crazy and manipulative ass after he insanely crashes his car to get her to see him at the hospital. And Anya reveals to Holly J that Fiona is crushing on her. It does lead to awkwardness, but luckily they fix that by the end. And finally, Jenna has her kid, in a very underwhelming way. This didn't really feel like a season finale!

Fringe- Looks like things are coming to a head, though that make sense since there's only a few episodes left til the season finale. spoiler cut )

DW7 Stuff:

So I've finished the story modes of the original three kingdoms, and am on the last Jin board. While I have enjoyed the story mode in this game more than the previous DW games, my only real complaint is that its not evenly distributed. I mean, I guess since its based on a series of books which are in turn based on actual Chinese history, it can't be helped if the story doesn't divide as evenly without taking liberties like the previous games do.

But I think Wei got the short end of the stick. I mean, there seems to be a definite order in the way they expect you to play it- while Shu, Wei, and Wu start simultaneously, the way things end up, you probably want to play Wei, Shu, then Wu, and finally Jin. This is because Wei ends the earliest in the time line, and then you have to play Shu to see how things play out afterward, then Wu to see how things ends up after that. And at least Wu's last board feels like a last board. Shu's, not so much, and the Wei even less so!

The last Wu stage kinda had an epic feel to it, like you were working to a big conclusion. The Wei and Shu final stages just seemed like stepping stones to something else, but then it was over! Its interesting how it plays out though- Wu defeats Shu and Wei, but doesn't destroy them, they just want to peacefully co-exist. Which is fine as an ending, though the Jin story throws a monkeywrench in that.

Because its not all happily ever after, the land in peace- we don't really hear too much about the Wu in the Jin story, but apparently once Cao Pi is gone, the Wei rulers just become lazy and incompetent, forcing the Simas to take over before the current Wei rulers run things into the ground. As for the Shu, it seems like even though Sun Quan was all, "Let's all co-exist in peace!" the Shu could just never let things go, and basically perpetually attacked Wei and got repelled each time. Well, I guess since we don't hear anything bad about the Wu, maybe the Wu ending is happily ever after, just for them. Because in the Jin story, while the Wu do throw their lot in with several people trying to cause insurrection in the Wei empire, Jin doesn't really do anything to them.

Again, its disappointing the factions aren't on an even keel when it comes to endings, but since that's the way things played out historically, I guess it can't be helped!

TV commentary:

Doctor Who- Since I didn't watch the old series, I have no idea if some of the Doc's old companions were super hot back in the day, but of the new series, Amy is by far the hottest companion the Doc has had, right?! Interesting new season though! spoiler cut )

DW7 stuff: Ah, finished the Jin story after dinner but before the new Doctor Who. At least the Jin final stage has an epic, "ending" feel to it. So that's half the factions at least that have a decent final level. Heh, of course, I had said the Wei kinda got the short end of the stick, story wise, since things end early for them and they don't get a satisfying end to their story. But seeing Jin's ending, I think the Shu kinda get shafted overall. spoiler cut )
