Went to dinner at Umezono's with the usual suspects. Even though no one was in front of us, it took about 10 minutes to get seated. And the service was slow as usual. But hadn't been in a while, and the katsu curry is still a really good deal. Though getting sushi on top of that always jacks the price up though. Is it me, or do a lot of Japanophiles go to that place? There were no less than 2 tables near us where some dorky white dude was trying to impress some girl he was with all, "I know all about Japanese Culture!" and ordering for her and giving like a frickin' history/cultural lesson on the frickin' menu. Tacky! Is it weird for a banana like me to get bugged by these eggs?

Finally caught up on Noble Causes. Like I said, its an interesting series. The addition of the Blackthornes was cool. I guess since the series is more about soapy drama rather than actual superhero type fights, they kinda needed similar nemeses. more spoilery commentary )

Just watched this movie the roomie told me about that he got on DVD called Primer. Its a really interesting and mind blowing movie concerning a certain popular sci-fi concept, which I won't mention because I realize they don't even mention it is about that until well into the movie. They try to be a little more science-y about it, which is kinda cool, but they don't dumb it down, which can lead to confusion. If the roomie hadn't told me about the movie over dinner one night, I might have had trouble grasping the concepts. Because the characters talk about the science of it as if its ojv('Man, its obvious!') Heck, there were a couple of times where they'll go along a line of thinking, not even finishing the sentence and expecting the audience to infer what they were gonna say.

The guy who made the movie is all, he doesn't expect people to get it the first time through, and anyone who says they do is an effin' liar. Which is a little pretentious thing to say. But its true. Hell, I've just watched it a second time and had the roomie talk about the movie before I even saw it and there are still points of confusion. I don't care how smart you are, there are things you just won't see because you're not looking for them, even if you know what the plot of the movie is. I mean, when I saw Sixth Sense, I had heard there was a twist (didn't know what it was though), but just knowing there was a twist I was able to figure it out what it was when Bruce Willis goes to meet his wife at the restaurant and you think she's pissed because he's late. I figured it out, and the rest of the movie, I was thinking "brilliant!" how they cleverly disguised things. This movie, I knew some of the plot elements going in, and while there was a clue or two to one of the twists, there's a lack of context to use that info to figure things out.

Speaking of being aware, people have prolly seen this awareness test already, but I thought it was neat, and slightly creepy.

I forget if I've mentioned this before, but the Mountain Dew commercial where they were all, "The Yo Yo as invented as a weapon, its a fact!" like who didn't know that?! ojv('Man, its obvious!') It was invented by my peeps from Flipland! That's why you don't mess with us, not only can we kill you with knives and sticks, but flying circle-thingies on a piece of string! The other Dew commercial that's all "men are four times more likely to get hit by lightning than women?" I'm guessing that's because men are more likely to be outside in the middle of a lightning storm?

Anyways, while setting EHC to record, saw the description for tonight's Aliens in America sounded interesting (they do a community theater production of Rent!) and then the commercial showed Larisa Oleynik was gonna be in it, so that cemented me watching the ep. After all, I've always found her mad cute. But its not a show I watch regularly. I mean, when I first heard about the show, I knew the mom was gonna be Caroline in the City's best friend, but I had no idea until an ep a few weeks ago that Luke from GG was the dad. In any case, I was amused they actually did a couple of the songs, though a kid and his mom playing Roger and Mimi? That's kinda messed up.

Speaking of shows I don't watch regularly, just watching Unhitched while I type this up. Its okay, but hey, Rashida Jones is cute. Its nice to see her in something other than the pantsuits she sported on the Office. Its like the show couldn't have Karen sport a business skirt and boots combo a few times?

Through my random internet wanderings, learned about the twelve sisters from the Coyote Ragtime Show, which made me want to check it out. But I hear while the show started promising, it kinda fizzled out. And the 12 Sisters don't figure as prominently as they did in the first ep. Like this short 2 minute thing:

is the only time in the series where you get to see them all kick ass, but after that they're just in the background. Which is a waste, given that their character designs are pretty cool.

And now watching Dirt right now, is Courteney Cox still married to David Arquette? Because I just realized they've been billing her as "Cox" this whole time instead of "Cox-Arquette", and I thought back five years ago, she made a big deal of making it "Cox-Arquette" to try and avoid all the Cox jokes.
