Finally played RE4 yesterday afternoon. Totally awesome. The controls and camera are a huge improvement over the previous games. And you can hold more. And your knife doesn't take up any inventory slots! And its egg-citing! spoiler space, just in case )

It does have many similarities to MGS though! I mean, you don't have a codec, but you do have a walkie talkie that keeps you in contact with some hottie glasses wearing techie. And there's freaking claymores you need to detonate, much like having to shoot out the sensors on the c4 planted on the ship in MGS2. And there is a lot of sneaking around to do.

Dang, I forgot to mention I got my Leatherman Charge XTi from Amazon yesterday. Its pretty awesome. Being made of titanium, it feels lighter. I also like the new layout and locking system. You can pull out the longer blades now without having to unfold the pliers. And to unlock the blades is just the press of a switch as opposed to the whole pulling out another blade 90 degrees to disengage the lock like on the Supertool. The bits for the bit drivers are proprietary though, meaning you can't use normal bits. But they're thinner and thus more compact.

I got the one with the nylon sheath, even though I didn't expect to use it. But alas, I couldn't fit the bit holders, the charge, the mini-maglite, a space pen and a sharpie into the pock-it. But the new nylon sheath looked so nice and fit the bit holders and charge so well I switched to it. I don't carry the space pen and sharpie anymore and just carry the maglite around in a pocket. Not that I need the pen that much anymore as I can just type stuff into my sidekick 2. It is annoying though that the sheath is one of those that you have to run the belt through. At least with the pock-it, i can clip it over the belt for easy removal. I guess I could switch the hiptop to my left, and the leatherman to my right so its easier to slip in, but I end up banging into things more on my left side. I'd rather have the piece of titanium take the abuse as opposed to the expensive phone.

Anyhoo, I like the new pocket tool, though I feel bad for my old trusty supertool. Its served me well for a little over half a decade, and prolly has decades of service left in it. Now all I need is a lighter and a small roll of duct tape and I handle any sitch!

Alas, its too bad I missed last weeks L&O where Serena gets fired and says the totally from out of left field "Is this because I'm a lesbian?" line. And the fact that it one is the last minute is just too funny! I mean, that is indeed the most awesome send-off for a character ever, I think. For those of you who don't watch L&O, at no point in the four years she was on the show do they even portray her as anything remotely close to a lesbian. I like someone's comment on the TWoP forums comparing it to the Poochie send off on Itchy and Scratchy when they dub over Homer's heartfelt goodbye speach and then have the badly written tag at the end saying "On the way to his home planet, Poochie died".

I know, I'm like a week late on all this. But I was reading the TWoP recap on the last week's OC and they got to the part where DJ leaves Marissa because she's just totally using him to piss off her mom. So they recapped him as leaving and then Marissa being all, "Is this because I'm a lesbian?" Ha! Its funny on multiple levels, particularly because the previews have been showing Marissa as getting all lesbianic with Alex. Its right up there with the reference to Friends' Ross "Over me? When were you under me?" in the recap of DC's second ep of the fifth season. (Actually, I just noticed those recaps were both written by the same recapper.) Which is why TWoP is awesome, because the recappers watch as much TV as I do, and make obscure references to eps of various TV shows, like I do all the time.

Though, thinking about it, it only encourages my really bad habit of making seeming non-sequiturs and like talking all of a sudden about something to people without giving them a reference point. You know, like I'll see someone on some TV show, and then all of a sudden seque into talking about something the actor/actress spouse of some other actor/actress who was in a movie with someone who once guest starred on the show currently on the telly, and expect people to understand what the hell I'm talking about. I'll say, "I heard he did X?" and forget people have no idea who "he" is because they didn't make the same connections that my head did.

Okay, this game is totally awesome. Especially with the change in camera and controls. No longer are your movements slow and akward and the camera is in a real horrible angle so you're freaking out and firing randomly and hoping you hit the zombie you can't see. A good thing too since the enemies move faster. Of course, I love any game with a real good aiming system, various guns, and different hit areas.

So hit them in the legs and they trip, shoot them in their arms and they drop the weapon they're holding (particularly funny if they're holding a stick of dynamite cause they blow themselves and their friends up) You can also hbv('Shoot them in the face') (Does anyone know half the voices I drop in these posts? This one is of course Honey Bunny from Pulp Fiction), but for some reason that often only stuns them, even if its a shotgun blast at point blank range. cliffV('What's up with that?!') Which is kinda annoying, because if I immolate some chainsaw wielding maniac with an incediary grenade (twice!) and then stand over his body and empty my shotgun into his head, he should not be able to get up and decapitate me! Its total BS! And he's not even a boss! Resilient motherfucker. Luckily, after doing all that and then putting a few more double taps into his head with my nine finally brought that bastard down.

But anyways, this plays totally different from previous games. Before it was run from the slow zombies and blow their head off with a shotgun if they get too close. Here you hole up behind a wall and snipe a bunch of guys with your bolt action before running and gunning with a bunch of farm tool wielding crazed Spanish villagers. And you can even conserve ammo by leading them near gasoline filled barrels or planted claymores and setting them off with your pistol and blowing them up.

Hey, and you can find various treasures which you can sell to wierd leper guys who'll sell you weapons or customize your guns. And shopping for gun upgrades and accessories is cool. Oh, I forgot to mention the interactive cutsecenes. Often times there'll be times where something happens and the game requires you to press a certain button at a certain time like to run from and dodge a boulder, or to move out of the way at the last minute so the axe wielding crazy cuts your bonds instead of you, or to block attacks during a really awesomely choreagraphed knife fight.

I totally recommend it for anyone with a gamecube. A+D, you need to get this! And it has one of those Mercenaries games that gets unlocked when you beat the game. You play as Leon, Ada, Wesker, Hunk, or this new guy Krauser. Then you can have played/beaten all the RE games (which means you'll be two up on me since I still haven't beaten RE 0 and RE remake)
