Just saw Resident Evil: Apocalypse. It wasn't as terrible as I was expecting. Not that it was a great movie, but it wasn't too bad. Of course, the chick playing Jill Valentine looked totally hott in Jill's tube-top/mini-skirt and boots outfit from RE3. It was odd how they chose which characters from the games to put in. Jill is the only STARS member in it, but they do bring in Umbrella Special Forces' Carlos and Nicholai, so basically I guess they just chose peeps from RE3. And Nicholai wasn't the traitor/Wesker-lite he was in RE 3. No Redfield siblings, no Barry or Leon or Ada or Wesker or any of the Birkin family. They do have the Ashfords, but instead of being a freaky set of twins, it looks like they kinda merge them with the Birkins, with Angie Ashford being kinda like Sherry Birkin. They do try to recreate some of the shots and areas from the game. They even copy the RE: Code Veronica intro, with Alice in place of Claire- the chopper with mini-gun shooting at her and shredding windows as she runs down a hallway, they even do the thing where she drops the gun, then quickly falls and catches it and pops off some shots. They also copy the Umbrella chopper dropping the cargo into the city, though instead of dropping the nemesis, it drops a couple of cases containing the "secret weapons" from the game, i.e. the rocket launcher and mini-gun for said nemesis.

The nemesis looks just like he does in RE2/3 (though he wasn't as scary as he was in the games) and even does the "STARS!" muttering. I was a little confused if they combined STARS and UBCS, because the uniforms seemed kinda similar. At least they came up with a kinda reasonable reason for Nemesis to be hunting down STARS members, but instead of doing it for a coverup, it was to test the capabilities of Nemesis, but it seems like Umbrella had a straight hook up to record the data, instead of having a Wesker or Nicholai to gather the data as it murdered their teammates. And Alice's genetic modifications seem similar to Wesker's intitally, but the ending had me thinking of Alexia Ashford. Oh, and the cowboy sniper with the AWP was pretty cool, even if he was just a very minor character. That would be a cool position to be in if one was trapped in a city full of zombies. Elevated position thats hard to get to, huge line of sight. Just hole up there and start popping heads off any zombies that get close. Of course, if any of the lickers were around or hunters, if they had those in this movie, with their leaping capabilities, or if the zombies attacked en-masse, he'd prolly be quickly dead. All in all, it was an interesting movie, especially with the different references to the games.

Anyways, read the latest Hot Gimmick. Talk about confusing! Again, I like the Akane/Subaru plot because at least its simple, and familiar- the whole popular girl falling for the nice but nerdy guy. But Hatsumi and her guys, from her not-brother Shingo to the crazy sitches with both Azusa and Ryoki are so confusing. Azusa is a little more sympathetic here. If its one thing I can't stand, its people treating other people like shit just because of their background or something their parents did. That really burns me up. Still, what he was trying to do to Hatsumi wasn't cool. And Ryoki, whenever he becomes somewhat sympathetic, he always does something really asshole-y to make up for that. Seriously, none of these guys really seem like a smart choice for her. Though I guess if Ryoki was less of an asshole, and like knew how to treat a girl like a normal person would, he'd be okay. But anyways, its still a great series.

What on earth is this Darklight movie they're having on Sci-Fi? Hey, it looks like Shiri Appleby is still doing things.
