geebsSo Here on Earth is on HBO right now. I always get frustrated at the point in the movie where Kelley finds out Sam has cancer and can't deal with it so he leaves for a couple of weeks! What an idiot! She's dying, and he wastes the time that they could be spending together?! That moron! Yes, I realize its just a movie, and one with a prosaic storyline. Some jerk meets a sweet, down-to-earth girl who changes him, but then he finds out she has cancer. He can't deal, so he turns back to his jerky ways, leaving her in the hopes that he can forget her, but he can't. So he goes back, and for some reason she accepts the jerk back even though he abandoned her and they spend the last few days/weeks/months of her life together. Hollywood has done the story a jillion times.
Of course, I'm a sucker for all that faux love crap that you see in movies and TV. And I mean faux because its just not realistic. Real life doesn't work out as perfectly, and people aren't that soulful and articulate and witty as you see on the screen. But it does give me a warm fuzzy nonetheless.
