TV commentary:

Veronica Mars- So, that happened. I was unfortunately spoiled for the big shocker at the end, but hey at least that gave me time to prepare for it. I can't say I'm not disappointed by them killing off Logan, but more on that in a minute. I actually did like the insanity of the case, because really, it was kinda bonkers.

So, Big Dick is trying to buy up real estate for the latest Neptune gentrification project. He gets a fellow inmate back from when he was in jail for his previous real estate shadiness to set off a bomb that was only supposed to scare someone. But due to a snafu the bomb goes off at the wrong time killing some people, one of whom is the fiancee of the brother of a state senator, and another the freaking nephew of a big drug kingpin. Seriously, what are the chances?! Not only that, the event inspires a quack pizza deliveryman to go on his own bombing spree.

Said senator is an Arab American with a few skeletons in his closet and the death of his brother's fiancee starts a whole problem with her racist family, and then there's the cartel hitman sent to town to avenge their boss' dead nephew. One of whom meets and starts seeing Weevil's sister. Needless to say, all this stuff interacts and crosses in crazy ways.

Maybe its a little convoluted, but I enjoyed the crazy connections. Like, I was amused how Penn accidentally got the details wrong when he started mimicking the bombings just because a couple of tacks from Matty's art project end up being propelled from the explosion into his back. And how his taking up of the bombings kinda make him and Dick's bombings red herrings for each other because there were theories posited, but end up falling apart if one thinks they're all by the same guy. But they work if they're treated separately.

Its weird Clyde got a happy ending- he gets his business and the girl. Yes, he took umbrage at Big Dick choosing a bomb instead of making the guy a better offer. But he was still complicit in getting the PCH-ers to drive people out in other ways. Plus, if he didn't help out (well, scam) Big Dick and get him in touch with the bomber guy, there wouldn't have been a bomb in the first place.

Matty's ending was also weird. Like if the money was somehow from Big Dick, then its like some sort of karmic justice. But it wasn't from him, she just basically stole the senator's family heirloom. People literally died because that ring went missing. Granted, its the fiancee's family who grabbed the senator, and he paid the hitmen off to kill them when they wandered into the situation because they thought he was behind the bombings. So there were bad decisions all around. But they didn't do anything to her, so its weird that she's profiting from them.

I mean, she did feel if the brother wasn't bitching about his deposit, her dad wouldn't have been at he desk to get blown up. But hey, he was maimed and his fiancee was killed, so if there was some sort of comeuppance he was supposed to get for his greediness, I'd say he got it. And it was a family heirloom, not like some expensive ring that the family got a dime a dozen of. So its cool that she became V's protege, its just kinda weird she basically robbed some people who didn't really do anything to her.

Now, onto Logan's death. It kinda sucks for two reasons, 1) things were finally looking up Veronica. Her dad was healthy, and she was getting married to a better Logan. Of course, it was weird that they hinted at her fucked-up-ness in liking the toxicity of her relationship. Plus her rampant paranoia- like thinking Logan only wanted to propose knowing she'd say no so he'd have the "upper hand". He was wanting her to go to therapy with him to hopefully let it help her like it did him. But they somehow just skipped past all that and Veronica finally accepts his proposal after a near brush with death.

But I digress, even though maybe getting married wasn't the smartest choice until she figured things out, it still sucks that her new husband was blown up in front of her. Some people are all, "Well, its noir, its full of tragedy!" but whatever, the heroes in those stories are hardened and have no hope. A lot of fucked up shit has happened to Veronica, but there did seem like there was hope for her, that she could get a happily ever after.

Which brings us to 2) I get annoyed a things like this because it basically ruins the fandom. Like I can't even look at the tumblr tag without just seeing a bunch of people bitching. Like do I like what happened? Obviously not. I think it was pretty ill advised. But when it comes to other endings, its actually not too bad. Not the ending I would've chose, but its not outlandish.

If there is one hole, its with Penn's final limerick. So when Veronica figures out how the poem applies to her and its going off right then, its not like they got it wrong the first time. Their first guess was right, because Penn did indeed disarm the bomb at the school so he wouldn't get blown up. But then he left the bomb in her car (which, they really didn't clear her car after he was arrested in case he left something there to be used as additional evidence?) as a contingency. But why did it have to go off at noon Fiji time?

Like I presume if the Marses fell for his ruse that Don did it, then he would've taken the bomb from the car, otherwise another bomb going off would mess up the narrative. If he really wanted his revenge though, it seems like he would've just blown her up instead of making the time and reason match the last limmerick. Then again, I guess by killing Logan he did get revenge.
