Legacies- Eye-opening episode! So Jo's been giving Lizzie the cold shoulder, having moved into Penelope's room (heh, and wearing her clothes). Josie's doing all she can to learn what the merge is. Lizzie does manage to learn her sister has been researching it, and tells Hope, who calls Freya, who tells her what it is. Once she knows the details, Hope tells Alaric he needs to tell his daughters everything.
But the girls get into a confrontation first, where Lizzie says codependency needs two people. Lizzie may be a handful, but Josie was willing to enable it. Interestingly enough, while Lizzie acts like the dominant twin, in the fight, Josie basically whips Lizzie's ass, and Liz totally realizes Josie's stronger.
Anyways, Alaric tells the girls about the Merge and their destiny, apologizing for not telling them. Its like, how in the world does he tell them about that?
In the other half of the ep, we get huge answers about Landon and Clarke and Malivore. So way back when, a dragon was terrorizing a village, and a vampire, a witch, and a werewolf teamed up and used their blood to create a golem, Malivore, that could absorb these monsters and absorb them. It couldn't hurt vamps, witches, or werewolves, but everything else was fair game. And it had an insatiable hunger for monsters.
Unfortunately for that witch, vamp, and wolf, the thing gathered quite a bit of followers from the villages he saved, and with their help, he took out his creators. As time grew on, he wanted to create beings of his own, but the attempts (like Clarke!!) were flawed, as they were sterile. Clarke, angry at his "father" for casting him aside, teamed up with Malivore's followers and some mercenary witches to turn Malivore into the mud from which he had been created from.
And that's how the pit was created. Eventually, those people became the Triad Corp, using the pit to destroy evil threats. But like all powerful organizations, they eventually got corrupted. Not only did they feed Malivore actual threats, but also people they didn't like. Eventually, Clarke, disillusioned with choosing these folks over his father, cast himself back into the pit.
He was brought back decades later, and learned his father did manage to procreate- it has absorbed enough human dna that when it absorbed Seylah, it was able to impregnate her, and as we knew, that baby was Landon.
Now, Clarke secretly told him all this, under Mrs. G's nose. Why? Because he wants to free their father, and appeals to Landon's longing for family to help him. Malivore's trappers created three key, but also made three fakes. Since Landon is of Malivore's blood, he should be able to detect the real final key. And so Clarke asks his brother which of those items are calling out to him.
Meanwhile, Hope and the school think Landon just went on a camping trip to clear his head. Hope uses a magic prism to talk to a subconscious created version of Landon, to help her figure out how she can fix things with him. She does talk through some of her issues with it, including her abandonment fears. But, since the thing is from her subconscious, it eventually tells her to pick up on some clues she knows that would tell her something is off with Landon's trip.
Indeed, eventually she gets Roman to listen to the voicemail, and she figures out he's been captured by Triad and decides to grab the girls and MG and Caleb to go rescue him. Raf is left out because he's still messed up after taking that magical formula when they were trying to figure out what happened to MG and Landon. Hope gives him a ring that should allow him to turn into a wolf, though only Hope can change him back. She hopes by getting a chance to go into wolf form and let it take over for a while, it will fix the mental rift he has going.
Only they're not going to have a chance to rescue him, because Triad corp just broke down the gates to the school to attack. Why? Because apparently off screen Landon did tell Clarke which is the last object and they ran off, accidentally leaving behind a picture of it. Which Mrs. G seems to think is at the school. I'm skeptical though! They escape, but they carelessly leave behind a pic of the last key? I'm guessing its some sort of red herring!
Oh, and Alaric patches things up with Dorian. Emma decides to take a sabbatical and tells Alaric to apologize and see if he and Dorian can figure things out while she's gone.
