Legacies- Some huge things tonight, I don't know where to begin. Let's go with the monster of the week, a Gorgon. So there's a fake out in the beginning where Clarke tells a captured hooded person to infiltrate the Salvatore school. And lo and behold, Roman is mysteriously back. Landon is immediately suspicious of him, but he's a red herring.
The threat is a new girl who shows up and catches MG's eye. They bond over comic books and argue about who the best Green Lantern is. Turns out, she's a gorgon, turning MG's mom to stone after she overhears the way his mom talks to him. And then Alaric when he and MG start to investigate. MG's immune to her powers since he's a vamp, so he gets a neck snap instead.
Anyways, he manages to get the drop on her later when she goes after Landon (who's smarting after a big reveal, but more on that later) and they capture her. Alaric and MG's mom are unstoned. Then MG's mom totally tasers Landon and captures him. Because the identity of "Mrs G" that Clarke worked for was right in front of our faces all along- G as in Greevey! So Triad Corp has him for now.
But yeah, the rest of the eps plots are connected to a little trick Penelope played at Christmas- she gave out a bunch of pens to everyone, but they were spelled so she could find out everyone's secrets. Well, if they wrote them down in diaries, like how archaic are they? But since this is a spin off of Vampire Diaries, people still do write in actual books, even though its the friggin future.
But I digress. She learns all about Hope and Landon's mother thing, and tells Landon that Hope remembers everything and hid it from him. Why? Because she's pissed about how some happenings concerning her lady love, and so her default reaction is to stir up trouble.
And that's why Landon was alone, because he was upset about Hope lying to him, as well as Alaric.
The other huge secret she found out? She knows about the Merge from Alaric's diaries!! So the Miss Mystic Falls competition is heartbreaking for her. So Lizzie has to drop out of the competition because the head judge is Dana's mom, and there's no way she can win. So she puts her backing behind someone else, and its not Josie, its Hope. That's a whole other situation, but I'll get to that. So, Josie, ever the sacrificial sister, decides to help by entering just to throw the contest, and take out a few competitors along the way to open the field up for Hope.
So given how self sacrificial Josie is being, Penelope can't stay and watch Josie possibly sacrifice herself when the merge happens. And so she leaves to go to an all witch school in Belgium. She had told Josie in the note she wrote, which Josie didn't read until the competition. And finding out Penelope is leaving is enough to get her to lambast Lizzie for not even considering her feelings concerning the pageant and maybe she wanted to win and then not even thinking about the emotional impact of the dress she picked out for Hope. (Which I'll get to)
She tries to get Penelope to stay, and Pen had been hoping for weeks Jo would give her a reason to. But like I said, Josie's actions and taking a literal fall for her sister has her too worried and she can't stand by and watch Josie sacrifice herself. And so she warns Josie about the merge. She doesn't tell her what it is, but that Alaric had written about it and she needs to see for herself what it is. Their goodbye is incredibly bittersweet and sad.
Now to Hizzie. So its funny, because Lizzie is actually more thoughtful than she's previously been, but also pretty thoughtless as usual. Not considering if Josie wanted to win, going with Hope because she had a better chance of taking the crown. But also letting Hope wearing their mom's dress. Josie knows the significance of it, but Lizzie thinks its just some dress "some guy who had a crush on their mom gave her". So Jo is all, yeah, that man was Klaus Mikaelson! Whoops.
So Hope finds out and breaks down, even after being announced the winner. But Lizzie stops her from going all Carrie- since Lizzie is familiar with magical freakouts, she helps Hope through it, and its nice to see them being friends. And so she vows to help Hope with Landon if Hope will help her patch things up with her sister.
