The Americans- Woah, that's a surprise! So Philip comes clean about spying on her for Oleg. Heh, and part of me thinks while she is mad at the betrayal, she's also mad that Philip managed to fool her like that. He says he tried to tell her, and in his defense, things have been going to shit lately, so she's been too busying stressing over that to listen to him.
In any case, he tells her, what does she really know about her orders? He doesn't want her to stop what she's doing, but to act like a human, not just be a robot carrying out the Centre's will. She's angry, but the seed is planted, and it actually works!
First off, she goes to the Haskards, where she discovers Glenn tried to euthanize Erica because she couldn't take it anymore. Unfortunately, it does not go well and she's in really bad shape. Now, Elizabeth could let her continue to suffer, and convinced Glenn to work through it to continue the mission, but she shows mercy and finishes Erica off. Rather grossly though, by choking her to death by shoving a paint brush down her throat. Not that Glenn knows that's how she did it.
Though its not exactly altruistic, because afterward he tells Glenn he should be with her and pay his respects, at which point she breaks into his briefcase while he's up there to take pics of important documents.
She still needs to hear that meeting though, so she seduces Jackson. (Pretty cleverly too!) She tricks him into leaving a box with a bug in it in the room, and then makes up some excuse for him to take it back so she could get the recording. Only, he find the bug and confronts her. And man, if Philip didn't talk to her earlier, poor Jackson would be so dead. But instead, Elizabeth is just very threatening. Which could prove costly in the end, given how quickly the FBI has ramped up their investigation.
Indeed, the Feds are chasing down every lead. Stan suspects his neighbors, but hasn't told Aderholt yet. He goes back to one of Gregory's old associates (who works at Roy Rogers, I miss those!), to show a pic of Elizabeth to see if he recognized her. He doesn't, but he mentions the chain smoking, which Stan has noticed all the cigarettes on the back patio. Heh, hilariously, the guy says he has something for Stan. Stan thinks it might be a lead, but its just some free Roy Rogers as thanks for not jamming him up back then!
Elizabeth's not the only one showing mercy. Philip tries to apologize to Stavos, who mentions he knew something fishy was going in the back room. (Finally, they bring that up, I always thought it weird that the rest of the agency didn't know what was going on. For the longest time I thought the agency was just a front!) Again if Philip wasn't feeling so guilty and unsure of the cause, Stavos would be so dead!
Anyways, Elizabeth listens to the tape, finds out the guy Claudia and the Centre has been telling her is a bad guy, and he doesn't seem so bad. But then she's ordered to assassinate him, and told they were going to falsify documents to make Gorbachev look bad and thus remove him from power. Elizabeth won't do it though, so she asks Philip to put her in contact with Oleg. But she also has to protect that one guy from the other assassins they'll inevitably send since she won't do it.
So Philip says he'll go, which could be bad, because the Feebs are watching him. So could Philip get caught? And its funny, because Oleg and Philip (and now Elizabeth) are doing something that would be good for US-Russia relations, so this could really throw a monkeywrench in things!
