TV commentary:

The Originals- So now we know what this is all about. I'm a little skeptical, I get that being over a millenia old, the Mikaelsons might forget people, but this is something that was less than a hundred years ago. So back in Nazi Germany, Klaus meets a vamp, August, with whom he has a philosophical argument about "vampire racial purity" and the disgustingness of werewolves. Elijah shows up to tell his brother about werewolf slaughters nearby, worried it was Klaus, or worse, their father getting close.

But Klaus realizes its August, which puts the vamp really on his bad side. August is all, why should they care, you're Originals, shouldn't you be all, vamps are so great, wolves suck? Which he unfortunately didn't realize that Klaus is a hybrid and would take major offense.

And here's where things get crazy and relevant to now. August's wife is Greta, their children are Antoniette and Roman! Which, are they an actual family that got turned together, or are Antoinette and Roman just their "children" in the way the Heretics were Lillian and Julian's children on TVD? Because not sure that would work if they were there true children. I mean, Jaime Murray is a lovely woman, but she's like my age. But Roman is supposed to be 16. How would their children have a 24 year age difference, unless they're claiming Jaime Murray's "apparent age" is much younger than she actually is?

But I digress, turns out she and Elijah did know each other back then. She claims not to share her father's hatred, and Elijah offers her and "any others" who want to flee Germany a free ticket out if they mention his name. And it was in that moment she fell for him. So she knew exactly who he was when they met, but didn't want to tell her who she really is and have him "hate her forever".

Which on the one hand, she seems like she's really washed her hands of her family's hatred, on the other, its suspicious she did lie to him about her identity because she was worried how he would react. I mean, if she really turned over a new leaf, why would they have beef? Like it couldn't be about her family having a feud with his because they kidnapped Hayley several years after they met, and she shouldn't even know anything is happening unless they're still on speaking terms. So did she end up doing something to him or his family in the past?

In any case, she apologize to Elijah about the lie and promises she's done with her family, and they make up. Roman though, he's definitely in his mother's pocket, as we see at the end of the ep. But we're not there yet.

So yeah, in the present, Klaus knocks some heads and Greta comes up to him, admitting she's the one who kidnapped Hayley. So Klaus ties her up and begins to drain her of blood to get he vervain out of the system. During this time, she says she'll let Hayley go if Hope goes under the same binding spell Esther cast on Klaus all those years ago to suppress his werewolf side.

Klaus doesn't want to do that to his daughter, to make her go through the same thing he did. Its a sore spot for him, because it always made him feel lesser, to hide a part of him like that. But at the same time, he doesn't want Hope to lose her mother. Greta also tries to appeal to Marcel and Josh, citing the danger of having hybrids run loose.

Josh think its a fair deal, to which Marcel is all, you're lucky Klaus didn't hear you say that. Eventually, Marcel tells Freya, who tells Hope, and they try to do the binding spell. Klaus figures out their plan though and runs all the way to Mystic Falls to stop it. He gets into an argument with Freya all, she knows how much he lamented his werewolf side being suppressed, and she tells him how about how upset she was growing up without a mother. Which, did they? He was free from his curse by the time they met back up .

In any case, he takes the bowl of Hope's blood they were going to use for the ritual and uses it to start creating hybrids as basically an F-U to Greta. Meanwhile, he chastises Marcel for going behind his back, saying losing Rebekah messed with his head, and he'll do any stupid thing just to get back in his city's good graces.

Meanwhile, after Greta is drained, Josh tries to get her to confess, that if she does it freely, without compulsion, Klaus may show mercy. Unfortunately for him, Greta was playing possum and is apparently more powerful than she should be, and she beats the hell out of Josh and escapes.

To his credit, Klaus actually feels bad for Josh getting hurt, as opposed to his usual, "how dare you fail me due to your incompetence!" Marcel admits that maybe he was trying to make choices that would please his constituents than what's best for them. Because they really shouldn't cave to some Nazi bitch like Greta.

But Klaus does blame himself as well, saying this is yet another one of his problems coming home to roost. When he confronted August, he didn't just kill him, he started slaughtering his followers, and then when Greta capitulated, asking for mercy for Antoinette and Roman. Which he might not have seen Roman, and I can see Elijah not recognizing her, but how did Klaus not recognize Antoinette? Like, its not like he just met her when he tried to compel her to leave Elijah, he knew they were involved for a while!

But I digress, Klaus said its his fault for shaming them, because he did to them what his father did to him. And as he knows very well, the thirst for vengeance after that can be quite large. But really, if it was anything else, I'd agree. But eff that family, they were Nazis, he was right to slaughter August. Like there are people who had legitimate beef with Klaus and his family. Like the Trinity, the Mikaelsons came into their kingdom and ended up destroying it and then using them as bait to lure Mikael off their backs. Marcel, the NOLA witches and wolves, they have legitimate reasons to want revenge on Klaus. But killing some vampire eugenicist is totally okay in my book.
