The Americans- That went well! So Chicago ends up being a failure for both Aderholt's team and the KGB. The Jennings and crew manage to extract Harvest. Which, as an aside, last week they made it sound like they were undermanned, but Elizabeth had like three people with her, plus the immigrants they hired! Though I guess Phillip is a full fledged spy like Elizabeth, so I guess his presence did make a difference.
But I digress. The FBI is too good, so even though their extraction goes well, the Feds sniff out the switch rather quickly. And they immediately know what vehicles to look for. So even though they switch vehicles again, its not quick enough and the Feds catch up. Marilyn tries to run them down, but gets a bullet in the head and dies instantly. Elizabeth takes over quickly, with Philip killing one Fed and Harvest killing the other as they drive off, but not before Harvest takes a lethal gut shot.
As he dies, he tells Philip to give a dying message to his parents, which Philip promises to relay. But lets be serious, how the eff is he ever going to do that?! Anyways, Philip chops off Marilyn's hands and head, which Elizabeth tosses in a lake so the body can't be identified.
So Aderholt comes in to work the next day all hangdog, showing Philip pictures of their dead agents, the unidentified corpse, and Harvest. Its not a total loss for the KGB though, as Harvest tells the Jennings that the schematics for the sensor are in an air base in France.
Anyways, this is all ill timed though. So to go to Chicago, Philip asks Stan to look after Henry, yet again. Philip is obviously troubled over the whole mission, which Stan picks up on. Philip covers by telling him about the failing business. Which appeases Stan for a moment.
But as he talks more to Henry, his suspicions only heighten. Because he's reminded, what kinda travel agents are always going off on trips in the middle of the night. And they have no other relatives, other than the mysterious Aunt Helen who Henry's never met, but Paige might've.
And its very curious that right as Aderholt has this big op, Elizabeth and Philip go off on "travel agency" business? Then he remembers all the stuff over the years, and his suspicions are renewed. He breaks into his neighbor's house, but they've always been very clean, so he finds nothing. But he knows something is off. So it seems its only a matter of time before he can prove it.
After the Jennings return, Elizabeth talks to Paige, telling them of how the mission was a wash, and Marilyn died. She tells Paige she has to decide whether she wants to be a spy or not, because its a lifelong commitment. She can't have real friends, to which Paige sadly says, "oh, that's fine, I don't have friends anyways!' But yeah, she's committed to the cause, and as much a true believer Elizabeth is, I'm thinking part of her was thinking Paige would say no, she would get out of this life before it destroys her.
But the unfortunate thing is she's already destroyed. She can never have a normal life at this point anyways. But Elizabeth is ever the soldier. Once Paige says she accepts, says she's all in, her mom says its time for her to get an internship at the State Department and become a second gen deep agent as was always planned for her.
Poor Henry though, his family is so messed up. So either they get caught, and he's the kid who's family were spies. Or they could die, chopped up and disposed of to keep their secrets, and he would never know. Or Stan could stumble onto them and get killed, and then he loses the only adult who's ever cared about him.
Also, if he finds out about the spy thing, he might totally be insulted that they never included him.
