TV commentary:

The Americans- Thanksgiving! Heh, its a good thing Elizabeth got called away on the Chicago mission, because she might've decked Stan right there in the middle of this Thanksgiving toast!

Heh, that speech was almost as awkward as Phillip's weird motivational exercise thing from a few eps ago (which still makes me cringe just thinking about it) Its like I love America too, and even I thought it was a little inappropriate. And that's not even counting how weird it must feel being one of the two Russian spies at the table. (Heh, or three, because the jury is still out on Renee!)

But I can see why he's hostile. He's just coming off of Sofia and Gennadi's deaths, and as Aderholt brought up, the Russians are having peace talks, yet they're still doing all this spy stuff. So as a patriot and federal agent, it can be pretty enraging. But its funny, because the sensor operation they bring up, the "suicide" of that general and all those dead guards, that's technically a rogue operation.

Well, sorta. I mean, it seems like its being officially sanctioned by higher ups, but those higher ups are running counter to Gorbachev. I guess since Arkady had to go to Burov since he was out of the agency to work against them makes that the real rogue operation. But yeah, speaking of, Aderholt and Stan also add Oleg randomly being in America prolly doing something suspicious as yet another sneaky thing the Russians are doing. And its funny, because he's actually trying to help them!

Anyways, I was surprised Philip outright told Elizabeth what he did with Kimmy. I expected him to make something up, but he straight up told his wife he warned Kimmy to be suspicious. Which before he said that, Elizabeth was all, "I'll take care of it!" Like, when?! I mean, I guess they really do have her running ragged. Like she's freaking being Erica's nurse, doing the sensor op, and I guess to keep Paige from effing around with interns herself to get intel, Elizabeth's starting to work some film snob intern? And this was even before she had to go to Chicago to rescue Harvest. (More on that in a sec)

But what the eff, her telling Philip him sleeping with Kimmy and going back on the plan was just him wanting to finally bang her since he wasn't getting any at home. That's over the line, because sleeping with Kimmy is the last thing he ever wanted to do.

Their relationship is definitely frayed, and how awkward must that be for Henry? He doesn't even know about this spy stuff, he just thinks his parents are having marital troubles for normal reasons, possibly their failing business. Which speaking of, since he has no intention of not completing his education at that fancy school, he tells his dad he's getting a summer job to help cover tuition, talked to the school about extra scholarships, and even got a friend's dad to possibly help with investing. Which really just makes Philip more sad than anything, since he feels like a failure and his son is trying to bail him out.

But I digress, even though Elizabeth and Philip are in conflict over the spy stuff, they still love each other. So when Elizabeth calls Henry to tell him she loves him and all that, Philip starts to get worried. The job is going to be extremely difficult. Philip tries to talk her home, but she's ever the loyal soldier. So I think it comes as a surprise when he says he's coming to help. I mean, they may not agree when it comes to politics and ways of life anymore, but they still care about each other.

And it is getting really dangerous- so the mission in Chicago is to extract one of their own, codenamed Harvest. Turns out the FBI finally did get something useful from the Gennadi operation- a picture of the sensor Elizabeth has been looking for. Anyways, they contacted the company, that did an internal audit, and totally found a person Harvest turned. And so they've been following him, learning all sorts of things about Russian spycraft.

Which is rapidly increasing the numbers of ways the Jennings can get caught. Even if this op goes smoothly, the FBI's learned so much on how they work. Like how they get cars for ops, and the use of random garages as safehouses. So they've been searching to find any in the DC area, so they could be caught that way. They know about the sensor op, so they could find Elizabeth on one of her missions concerning that. And Aderholt mentions to Stan they've been checking out Russian Orthodox priests as well, so they could also be caught that way!

These next few eps should be exciting!
