Walking Dead- See, that's what happens! I get Negan and the Saviors have done some pretty horrific things, but hey, to some of the Saviors, the Alliance prolly seem like monsters. Let's not forget, this whole thing started when Rick and crew went to butcher a bunch of people in their sleep. And the previous episode, where I was disgusted with Rick who's all, "I give you my word!" and promising there's a place for the Saviors who ran away from the hilltop, and not one second after one of them save his life, Rick turns on them and kills them!
I mean, guy who killed the kid, he was a dick and deserved what he got, but he doesn't know anything about these other guys. They're just soldiers. Like Carl said in his letter, a lot of people in the Sanctuary are normal people just trying to get by. Violence begets violence!
Look no further than the Eugene situation for an example of that. He did what he did to survive, but was sympathetic to Alexandria/Kingdom/Hilltop. Until Daryl and Tara did their cockamamie plan to bust open the Sanctuary walls and have a bunch of zombie swarm in. That angered him and motivated his plan to bust out, leading to more losses on both sides. And then he was going to give Negan the bare minimum bullet order. But then Daryl and Rosita grabbed him, were dicks, made their intention clear to kill him after he got away, so what choice did he have but to continue backing Negan and end them once and for all if they weren't going to let him live?
Its unfortunate, I wonder if Negan might've been more accepting of a cease fire if he got Carl's letter earlier. But now with the events since, he feels he has to kill all of them now, because his whole setup relies on order via fear. But if people are no longer afraid and think they can fight back, it falls apart. And since Rick was all, he won't make peace with Negan, Negan is just gonna double down.
But yeah, so as expected, the passenger Negan picked up on the way back was Laura. But he brought her back secretly. I mean, even he didn't reveal he himself was back, preferring to show up and surprise Simon and Dwight.
Anyways, we find out just like the Junkyard massacre was all Simon, so was the killing off all the men and boys at Oceanside. Negan saw Simon was a psycho back then, but figured, maybe he'd just take the guy in and reign him in instead of just killing him.
Negan is willing to let bygones be bygones and forgive Simon and Dwight for abandoning him. Then he shows him his plan for taking out the Hilltop, they're going to camp in specific spots, with tight supply lines for 24 hour coverage, locking them all down so they can't get out.
After the meeting, Simon gets with Dwight and says they should make their move now. And so Simon and all the people loyal to him meet with Dwight, but its a trap. Dwight betrayed Simon, and Negan kills all the conspirators other than Simon. Simon asks Dwight why he would side with Negan since he hates him so much, but Dwight says because their coup was ill-fated, Negan would've won.
Negan offers Simon a fight to the death for control of the Saviors, and Negan kills Simon with his bare hands, choking him to death. During this chaos, Dwight sends a copy of the map with Negan's ambush points with Gregory and directs him to a hidden car to get back to the Hilltop.
Only, later when Negan offers Dwight Simon's old position as number two, Dwight accepts but then finds out its a trick. Negan reveals Laura, who told him everything about Dwight's betrayal. And the map was a ruse, he wanted Dwight to give it to Rick, in order to lead the Hilltop into a trap. Whoops!
Hopefully next week will be the end of the savior war- I saw people joke that if its anything like the previous seasons, it will be a bunch of stuff leading to the actual final battle, and then the "final battle" will take place over the first half of next season. i don't think they're foolish enough to meander like that anymore though.
