Riverdale- Oh no! So Cheryl is freaking out at what she heard, fearful for her and her nana's safety. But she's also crushing on Toni, who just joined the Vixens. So she invites the "inner circle" Vixens (B&V, Josie, and Toni) for a sleepover, and reveals its because she's scared to be alone. Although later, after Josie, B and V are asleep she reveals to Toni she wanted to only invite her, but her mother would never let that happen. They're about to kiss when Nana Blossom falls down the stairs.
The doctors find tannis root in her system, which Cheryl knows her mom and Claudius were cultivating. But, the doctor tells Cheryl her mom already told him that her nana's dementia is what caused her to eat the tannis root.
Penelope then throws Cheryl in an institution, telling Toni that Cheryl went off to boarding school in Switzerland. Thankfully, Toni is suspicious.
Now, people are pissed because they think Penelope put Cheryl in conversion therapy. Which, I don't think that's necessarily the case. Like I'd prefer it not be conversion therapy, because its a touchy subject, and for all the craziness that happens on this show, that's a little too much. Now, when Penelope was taking her to the institution, the remarks about dark thoughts in her head came when Cheryl was accusing her mom and uncle of trying to kill Nana. So this could just be about her trying to quiet, and not trying to un-gay her.
But yeah, going back to the sleepover, Betty sympathizes, because she also is afraid of living in her own house because of Chic. Who isn't a Blossom, but I guess that was the whole point, Hal is not the father. Which is totally confusing, because I didn't think he was! Like, why else would Hal be so shitty to him?! As I said before, I figured Hal hated Chic's guts because its a kid Alice had with some other guy.
So yeah, Betty tells her mom Chic is not a Blossom, and she's all, "Yeah, but he is my son!" (Like, did she confirm it? Maybe next time do a DNA test against her genes, not Hal's, geniuses!) So Betty tries to freak him out, which backfires spectacularly when he freaking tells Alice on her. Alice tries to get her kids to bury the hatchet, so Betty tries to call truce, all, if she really wanted to get rid of him, she'd tell the sheriff about the murder. Only Chic is all, yeah, too bad she and Alice and Jug are the ones who cleaned up and touched the body.
So Betty asks Jug to stay with him after he asks her to be her running mate for student body president. And what's that about? Well, Jug's story involves him first going on a hunger strike then getting some of the serpents to chain themselves to Southside High to keep it from being demolished. Interestingly enough, I didn't notice Toni being there. Which, Jughead is making this big impassioned speech about Southside high, and its like, you weren't even there for a whole year! Like he's wanting them to go all back there, but it was a pretty shitty school. I'm sure Toni doesn't mind having a better education and a burgeoning romance with a hot redhead.
Anyways, Hiram gets Archie to break the demonstration since having the sheriff do it would look bad. Archie agrees to do it in exchange for letting Fred get out of his contract. And so Hiram does! And since Mary is in town trying to help him get out of his contract, she's staying around to help Fred with... running for mayor. Whoops, Hiram and Archie are prolly regretting that deal now!
But yeah, getting back to Jug, he's running for president against Veronica, who's also running against her parents' wishes. Why? Because she's facing all this crap because of who her parents are, and she was thinking if she could be president, she could smooth things over with everyone. Like Ethel, who's pissed at her family for making her dad lose her job. And Josie, who acts like she supports Veronica, but gives Ethel ammo- that Veronica knew her parents plan to close Southside High when she claimed she was just as surprised as the rest of them.
So what started out as a way to try and to repair things totally blows up in her face and makes her reputation even worse!
