Major Crimes- Series finale. I mean, Stroh dying was an inevitability, it was just how they were going to engineer it so there was no evidence of impropriety. Which, maybe if everyone didn't keep on outright saying they were going to murder him ("you need someone who will take the shot even if it looks like he's put his gun down and given up!"), I'd be concerned that someone would actually get in trouble. But given they even said that in front of the boss, its like, whatever, who's going to hold them accountable?
That being said, they kinda engineered a situation, though it was executed poorly. Now, Stroh had a gun hidden in his ankle. And when Provenza has him at gunpoint, and threw the cuffs on the ground to make him cuff himself, the audience knew Stroh was totally getting ready to bend down and in the guise of picking up the cuffs, draw for his ankle gun and prolly kill Provenza. But then Rusty shows up from some stairs and blows Stroh away.
Now, Rusty says he saw Stroh going for a gun, and yeah, given there was a counter blocking Provenza's view, while Rusty was coming up stairs and could've seen Stroh's gun from that angle, that sounds totally reasonable. But the way the scene is cut, it does look like Rusty just popped up and murdered the guy! I think they could've filmed it better to make it clear he saved Provenza's life.
Of course, they covered it up where Provenza claims he shot Stroh. Nevermind the fact it was with Rusty's gun. But again, since the cops were pretty much all talking about how there's no way they were letting Stroh live, its no surprise no one cares about such details.
And interesting, since Stroh's plan was the boat, it sounds like he was fine with British kid's "contingency plan", because if it did get out, the cops would be looking in the wrong place. Which just cements how out of his depth the kid was. I mean, it was also dumb that he had lost the feed to Ella's place, and despite knowing he's partnered with a total psychopath, did not immediately freak out that it was Stroh going after her!
