Stranger Things- Maps, roots, and reveals. Let's start with Dustin, Lucas, Max, and Steve.
Max is tired of the guys trying to be her friend, but keeping her out of the loop. Because Lucas doesn't want to miss out on the first cute girl he's ever had a chance with, he finally sits her down and secretly tells her everything, despite how dangerous it is for her, and how him telling her could've gotten him and everyone else in deep trouble.
Obviously the story is a bit fantastical for her to believe. She doesn't know if Lucas is fucking with her or not, but Lucas has no way to prove his story. Well, until he goes home and finds out Dustin has been trying to contact him all day with a "Code Red".
He heads over to Max's to pick her up, though she hides him from Billy- again, still not sure if he doesn't want her hanging out with anyone, or if he's a total racist. So Lucas takes her to meet with Dustin. When Billy's parents come home, they notice Max snuck out, and his abusive father basically tells him to tell "whatever whore he was about to go out with" that their date is cancelled and to find his sister. Which is obviously no good for Max, because his dad has wound him up and sent him to look for his stepsister.
Hilariously, he goes to Mike's, where Mike's mom answers in nothing but a bathrobe, her husband having fallen asleep in his chair. She takes a liking to Billy, who's all "Oh, I didn't know Nancy had a sister!" and they flirt and she sends him to the Byers' house.
Anyways, going to Dustin, what's his Code Red? Dart has basically gotten bigger, and ate poor Mr Mews. Dustin manages to lock Dart in a storm shelter, and goes looking for the rest of the gang, whom he is unable to get in contact with. He goes to the Wheelers, but Mike and Nancy are not there. As he's leaving, he bumps into Steve who's gone to apologize to Nancy.
Dustin tells him Nancy's not there and he needs his help with something important, asking if he still has the spiked bat. Dustin takes him to the storm cellar, but unfortunately Dart has burrowed through the walls and into the underground tunnels.
Dustin and Steve come up with a plan to leave out some food to hopefully lead it to the junkyard where they can take out Dart. Which is where they meet up with LuMax. Dustin is not pleased that Lucas told her everything, and a little sad when he sees the sparks flying between Lucas and Max. Anyways, night falls, and they think Dart has fallen for their trap. Only, there's not just him, but several "Demo-dogs", as Dustin has named them.
They almost get Steve, but he manages to make it to the bus, where he and the kids are trapped. They're pretty much done for until the dogs get called away. To what?
So as I said last post, a bunch of stuff was going on with Hopper, Mike, Joyce, and Will. So, after his blow up with Eleven, Hopper finds out Joyce has been frantically trying to call him because something is wrong with Will. After his encounter with the big shadow creature, he's been cold to the touch, and its clear he and the creature are linked.
Will starts making a bunch of drawings, and Joyce figures out they connect. So they lay all the pictures out, which reminds Hopper of roots, so he goes to the pumpkin patch and digs into the tunnels. Only the shadow creature manages to trap him.
After a while, Bob shows up at the Byers because he heard Will was sick. Joyce tries to send him away first, until she realizes she could get Bob, who's pretty smart, to figure out Will's drawings. Obviously, its hard for Bob at first, since he has no context, but eventually he recognizes the tunnels go around a shape that looks like Lover's Lake. He recognizes other bodies of water, and finally realizes the drawings are a map of Hawkins, with the tunnels unable to penetrate the bodies of water, hence going around them.
Joyce learns from Will exactly where Hopper is, and they go to find him. They get into the tunnels and free him, and as they leave, they're met by the institute who go in and start trying to burn the tunnels. Unfortunately, because of Will's link to the creature, he's sent into shock by the attack.
The new Institute under Dr Owens shows they're not the heartless monsters Brenner's people were, and take Will in to examine him. Joyce also tells Bob everything. Owens and his scientists try to figure out what to do- they liken Will's infection to a virus, and if they don't come up with a solution soon, Will will die.
Will eventually comes to, with what they think is memory loss, and they try to use his link with the creature to try and figure out a way to destroy it and free him from it. Will points them to a section of tunnel that the creature seems protective of, so Owens sends his men there.
Only, we find out Will's "memory loss" isn't that, its the creature pretending to be him, since it doesn't know everything Will knows. He is able to escape the creature's control temporarily to warn his mom that the men are walking into a trap.
Mike runs to tell the Doctor and Hopper, but its too late. The Demo-dogs have arrived from the junkyard and thanks to fog provided by their master, they tear apart the soldiers, and then make a beeline for the Institute elevator.
They eventually start slaughtering everyone, cutting the power and locking everyone in since the door fail closed. Bob volunteers to reset the breakers and open the doors- Hopper was going to do it, but he doesn't know anything about computers, so Bob is the best choice.
Its funny, because when they had hired Paul Reiser to be on this, people were expecting him to be as slimy as his character in Aliens. But nope, Owens is the total opposite. As I said in an earlier post, I wasn't sure if Owens was covering something up, or he didn't know what was going on, and it was the latter. He really didn't know there were underground roots infecting Hawkins. He wasn't doing something nefarious. And at this moment, he ends up staying behind to watch the monitors to guide Bob to the breakers and Hopper/Joyce/Mike/Will to the exit and warn them of any Demo dogs coming.
Bob ends up being as brave and true as Samwise, succeeding in his mission. Owens tries to guide him out (unfortunately in the excitment, Bob left his gun in the control room), and it almost seems like Bob is going to make it. He manages to get through the last set of doors, to Joyce, only to get tackled at the last minute. Hopper tries to save him, but he Demo Dog is too strong, and he's slaughtered by the pack.
Hopper, Joyce and the Boys manage to get out, where they're met by everyone else- Dustin, Lucas, Max and Steve had seen the Demo Dogs go off in the direction of the institute, and seeing from a distance that the power was out, went to investigate. As I said earlier, Nancy and Jonathan had shown up because they discovered the Institute had been in the house (as after the incident with Will, they took pics of all the drawings for further study).
So they all run off to the Byers house to regroup. And I'll save the climax of the series for one last post.
