TVD- Series finale! So as many suspected, the "Elena" that came out of the coffin to greet the brothers was really Katherine. Bonnie survived the end of the previous ep, with Elena and Enzo telling her its not her time, so Stefan and Caroline were able to revive her. So for a second there they made you think she came back to life because Bonnie temporarily died. Which would have been hilarious if that's all they had to do to break the spell, to just have Bonnie die for a little bit.
Anyways, we find out Katherine's plan- she had gotten Kai to magically trap Elena's body in the cellar of the high school. Thus the boys couldn't get Elena out of MF before it burned up. Damon tries killing Vicki, but she's apparently invincible. (Which, what was with Kelly and Kai having to kill people to stay alive then?) And Matt couldn't, nay, wouldn't convince Vicki to stop ringing the bell, because Vicki just wanted it all to end for her, and ringing the bell would do that. So he was willing to let her destroy the town if it would give her peace, choosing to evacuate the town instead. But as I said, that works for everyone but Elena.
The gang brainstorms a solution to their problem. Alaric is all, "well, before this whole mess, me and Dorian had an idea for a spell to destroy hell, we just would need a lot of power!" Bonnie is all, "Duh, like the unleashing of a whole bunch of hellfire when the bell finishes ringing?" The plan is to destroy hell while Katherine is in it. But to do that, they have to kill her at the right moment with the bone dagger (since its not made of her bones, it works differently on her than it does on Cade, and she'll keep coming back)
And so begins a whole bunch of people being all dramatic and sacrificial. Stefan tells Caroline she has to go, because the girls need her. And Alaric is all, the girls will be devastated if their mother figure dies, so Caroline has to live. Then Stefan and Damon argue about who gets to be the one to stay behind to make sure Katherine dies. And it seems like Damon wins, because he's still a vampire and Stefan is not and he can compel him. Which I was thinking, wouldn't Stefan be on vervain or something? So he compels Stefan to leave.
So we think Damon sacrifices himself, while Bonnie gets help from all of her ancestors to redirect the hellfire through the tunnels (where it seemingly kills Damon and Katherine)into the armory and to hold it back so it doesn't immolate her. Heh, she tells the fire, its not taking her today, and Enzo's ghost jokes, "now you want to live?" But yeah, Grams and Lucy (so she really is dead!) and a dozen other witch spirits show up to help Bonnie push the fire back and she succeeds. Then she collapses.
Next is a big fake out where Elena is in the high school, and Stefan is there, seemingly to tell her Damon is dead. But nope, its all a dream sequence to allow Stefan's ghost to say his goodbyes! Because he's the one who sacrificed himself! How? Because like I said, of course he'd be on freaking vervain! So Stefan faked leaving, only to take a vial of his blood to remove the cure from himself, sneaking up on Damon and injecting him with it.
And so, Stefan was rapidly aging, so he was dying anyways. So he throws Damon in a side room and holds Katherine in place while the fire burns them up. Which, it ends up working out (more on that in a minute), like he wouldn't know Elena would wake up, he could've doomed Damon to a mortal life without her! Anyways, Stefan walks off, and runs into... Lexi! They hug and I guess go off to heaven together?
Elena wakes up, and at first you think its because Bonnie died stopping the hellfire and using it to destroy hell. But nope, since Bonnie had a big confidence boost, she simply just figures out how to break the spell without either of them dying! So Delena are reunited!
Then we get a montage with a whole lot of old faces, like ghost versions of Vicki, Tyler, Liz, Jo, and Enzo, plus actual Jeremy. Matt becomes Sheriff. Bonnie goes to live life to its fullest, as Enzo will be waiting for her in the afterlife. Alaric and Caroline open a school for... supernatural types and such? With Dorian and Jeremy helping out. Oh, and this makes the Klaroline shippers collectively squee, but apparently this takes place after Klaus gets free from Marcel, and he donates 3 million dollars to the school. Along with a note saying he'll wait for her.
And Elena becomes a doctor. Then we get a super flash forward (or perhaps Delena die tragically young) where it seems like Elena reunites with her parents and her uncle-dad John (heh, no Isobel?) in heaven, while Damon meets back up with Stefan.
Heh, so its a relatively happy ending for everyone. I mean, Caroline loses her freaking husband on the night of their wedding, but hey, she still has her daughters, and she could get with Klaus.
