Saw John Wick 2 this weekend. I enjoyed it, definitely more action packed than the first, and more world building. And they finally answer the question on how John Wick can kill someone with a pencil. There were some plot points that I don't think made sense. Like D'antonio demanded John honor his blood debt and assassinate Gianna because he's the only one who could do it. Though honestly there was nothing we saw leading up to the assassination that necessitated it being John. What got him in was having access to the catacomb plans and keys, anyone could've done that!

And actually, having it be John was even worse, because the only reason security was alerted was because Cassian recognized John. Also, D'antonio planned to double-cross John anyways! As I said, he acted like it needed to be John because only John could handle the heavy resistance trying to get to Gianna. But there was none! And as such, if it was easy to get to her, and D'Antonio was going to kill the assassin anyways, wouldn't he want someone easy to kill at the end? I mean, I guess they claim the deed would be suicide so maybe only John is crazy enough to do it, but again, it wasn't, because anyone else prolly would've gone unnoticed! Cassian may have recognized other assassins, but he might not have paid them as much mind, because its a syndicate party. But John was freaking retired, so him being there was incredibly suspicious!

Even beyond that though, I'm sure there are plenty of assassins (and given the number of assassins we end up seeing in that world, that's no small number) who would claim they could do it. Its nitpicky, because otherwise there would be no movie, but it seems like D'Antonio would have been better served having a random patsy kill his sister, making it easier for Ares and her men to just kill the person after.

Also, the rules seem weird. Since there's a ledger recording that the blood debt was paid, wouldn't that be evidence D'antonio had his sister killed? Like even if it didn't say the reason, its like "hmm, John Wick randomly decides to kill Gianna after coming out of retirement, and all of a sudden, D'antonio declares John's blood debt to him was paid, I wonder what that was about?" And then D'antonio was acting all, "Oh, you killed my sister, I am honor bound to avenge her, even though I'm the one who called for her assassination in the first place!"

I mean, is it a loophole that the High Table is aware of but lets go, because its a loophole? You can't kill blood to claim the seat yourself, but if you can engineer an assassination attempt and kill the assassin, its okay? I would think they would only allow that if the person makes sure its not traced back to them, but as I said, the blood debt thing makes it rather obvious.

And how was John just not totally screwed from the get-go. He planned to kill D'antonio for burning down his house after his initial refusal. But Winston was all, "Fulfill the debt, then you'll be free to kill him, otherwise killing someone you owe a debt to is a crime against the organization!" But the thing he does is an offense to the organization, because its killing a member of the high table! It seems like no matter what John does he's effed!

TV commentary:

Walking Dead- This ep did not really need to go to 10:13, they padded the hour with too many commercials. Rick and Co try to recruit folks to their war against the Saviors, and it doesn't go well. Gregory is a weak-willed loser who refuses to help, but upside sounds like the rest of the Hilltop are like eff that guy and want to fight.

The gang finally sees the Kingdom, but alas Ezekiel decrees he cannot help. Morgan is no help, all, "Maybe we can find a peaceful solution!" even after hearing about the brutal deaths of Abraham, Glenn, Olivia, and Spencer (though who gives a crap about that guy!) They will take Daryl in though and hide him, but frustratingly enough, Carol still has no idea the gang came to visit.

Also, it seems like Father Gabriel ran and stole some supplies, but it looks like he went to hide them on the boat. So the gang looks for him and are surrounded by mysterious junkyard people? Rick looks happy because I guess he thinks he can recruit them, but who the hell are these guys?!
