The Good Place- Wow, I did not see that coming at all. I was wondering how they would extend that premise, particularly the way things seemed like they were going. But pretty clever development! So Eleanor and Jason get to the Medium place. Too bad the judge determines that the Bad Place is owed two people, and since Chidi and Tahani helped Eleanor and Jason, they will take the latters' place if they don't return from the medium place.
So, Eleanor goes back, having to convince Jason to do so. But not in time. So the judge says the four of them will decide which two will go. They debate on who should go, complicated by Real Eleanor saying she will take one of the slots since she knows she can hack it, and her soulmate is apparently in love with Fake Eleanor so there's nothing for her in the Good Place. At each point, all of them but Jason volunteer to go in various different pairings.
Eventually, Eleanor figures something out. So she volunteers herself and Chidi to go. But then she says Michael and the judge won't send for the train to the bad place, because they can't. Because Eleanor figures out they're in the bad place.
Indeed, Michael is all, "Rats!" and admits the deception. Turns out he was working on an exciting new version of the bad place that instead of the typical torture, he would get the residents to torture each other unknowingly. And he picked four people- Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani, and Jason who would be perfectly suited to do so. And everyone else from Michael to "real" Eleanor were just Bad Place administrators playing a role.
Heh, I had a feeling Tahani wasn't exactly good place material. Sure, she raised a lot of money for charity, but it wasn't out of the goodness of her heart, it was to one-up her sister. And Chidi made everyone he knew miserable with his indecisiveness. So Michael knew their personalities would all create the perfect storm of misery. And it did! It was amusing to look back and have them show how Michael helped things along, like making Eleanor his assistant to find herself. Or to accidentally let Tahani see the rankings to drive her nuts.
But there were other subtle hints in these two eps- they showed how Eleanor died, and "real" Eleanor was nowhere to be seen, even though they said the reason for the mix-up was that she tried to save "fake" Eleanor and they got killed at the same time and that fooled the powers that be since they had the same name. Also, when we see Michael's flashback the blue prints had "The Good Place" in quotations. Bravo, show, way to fool everyone but putting the pieces there to make it not come out of nowhere.
But argh, Eleanor says they failed, they tried to torture the four of them, but the experience made the four of them better. So Michael says she's right, and thus decide to erase their memories and split them up. Luckily, Eleanor rights a note for herself and stuffs it in Janet's mouth, since she won't digest it. And so when Eleanor wakes up in the Good Place, having forgotten everything, Janet gives her the note. Even though her memory was erased too, since the note had Eleanor's name on it, Janet gives it to her. It tells her to find Chidi, but she's all, "What the fork is a Chidi?!"
So, way to extend the show! Hopefully the show is getting renewed, because that would suck if that's how it all ends! Also, Eleanor admits she might be into Tahani, so lesbian tumblr is going nuts over that.
