TV commentary:
Frequency- I had a feeling that was the case, which is too bad, because otherwise this ep would have been fine for the finale. But since it isn't, I'm gonna be pissed if this show ends on a cliffhanger, because lets face it, it'll be a miracle if it gets renewed. I suspected the son might be the real killer, the only thing that had me hesitant was I wasn't sure about the ages. But he's grown up in 1996, so he's certainly old enough.
And interesting, I'm not sure if its part of why Gordo is self-deprecating, but we find out he harbors a huge amount of guilt over Raimy's mom disappearing. He was being bullied at school, and his a-hole father, to toughen him up, made him walk to school and back every day for a month. But one day it was raining too hard, and Julie was supposed to pick him up. But she never arrived. So he always blamed himself. Raimy assures him that the Nightingale had been stalking her for weeks. She also brings up the fact that in the new timeline, she was annoyed at her mom that day over lunch, and wished she had a different mom. But then she "came back home and had no mom!"
Its weird since technically, that memory is only a few weeks old for her. And how would that bubble up for her? Like would she just randomly remember, "Oh, I was so pissed at mom and wished she went away and then she did!" and then was all of a sudden hit with 20 years of guilt all at once?
But yeah, Frank and Raimy finally bring Deacon Joe to justice in both timelines. In Raimy's timeline, she uses info from Meghan and her brother (who apparently had gotten a fake ID to hide from their dad this whole time) to find a trophy box of the Nightingale victims. Heh, I can't remember if its the exact same cop and the exact same store, but the scene in the convenience store plays out again. I guess since Joe has less time to get ready to run and thus doesn't change his look, the cop is able to recognize him this time and arrest him.
Still, the evidence is circumstantial, though compelling. So Raimy ends up roughing Joe up in the bathroom. He'll tell her where the mother's body was moved to, and in exchange he wants her shoelaces to hang himself. Which he does.
So Raimy tells her dad how to find the brother, and the trophies, and the mom's body. Hearing the son tell it, the mom came home once with her sweater not buttoned properly, and Joe lost it and beat her to death. And so the deacon had him help tie up the body with rosaries as a "ritual to make sure she gets into heeaven". I guess we don't know if that story is made up or not. But if it isn't, being made to hide his mom's body might've been what turns him into the real Nightingale.
But yeah, Frank runs into some probs- Joe beats himself up in custody, and Moreno, being the asshole that he is, cuts the guy loose. He finds the son and takes Meghan to see him, but then the guy sees Frank's badge and takes off (which should've been a big clue he was the real Nightingale). Joe moves the trophy box before Satch can find it, but lest you think he just undid Raimy's timeline and he's free again in the future, he goes to a local diner and shows the waitress the trophies and tells her to call 911. But, he wiped them all off beforehand, which should've been another clue as to him not being the real killer and covering.
That, combined with Raimy letting Frank know the location of the wife's corpse puts Joe away for life. It takes a while for Raimy's time to fix itself, but she gets her mom back, and has the ring on her finger, so I guess she's back with Daniel.
In the end, we see that the son's closet is full of pics of Julie, making us think he's the real killer. Also, there's a mysterious envelope with Frank's name on it in Moreno's front seat, which he tucks away. What's that all about?
Also, we still don't know what changed with Frank being alive that caused the Nightingale killings to continue? I mean, we know why the killer switched targets, but we don't know why there were way more victims. Like was there something with the last kill not being Julie that caused him to stop originally?
We also don't know how the timeline thing works. Looking at next week's promo, it looks like Raimy's future is not as concrete as she'd hope? Though I would think it should only change if Frank does something. Like the way it should work is if Julie is alive in 2016, then the path between 1996 and there should consist of choices that all lead to that. And if there is deviation, it would have to be from an outside influence like Raimy causing her dad do something different. Otherwise I call shenanigans.
