One Day at a Time- So one of the things this shows well is the generational gap, which was mostly fun, though it was frustrating in one case. Lydia, being a devout catholic, was obviously not a fan of Penelope's separation from her husband (who BTW turns out to be a huge piece of shit) and kept pushing her to get back together. Which was fine in the beginning when we didn't know the exact details, but once Penelope talked about how it wasn't safe in the house with him because he's a druggy alcoholic, it was kinda annoying to see Lydia trying to hook them back up.
Then again, I guess that's part of the gap anyways. Perhaps she wasn't witness to his episodes, and as we saw with Pen's own PTSD issues, typical of Lydia's generation she doesn't believe in that sort of thing. Like she was scandalized when her daughter was taking anti-depressants, and was going to therapy. So she might not have known how bad it was with Victor. Glad to see she finally did see him for the dick he was and turned her back on him when he asked for her help when Pen kicked him out.
But yeah, eff that guy. Elena's coming out story was done pretty well, but it was sad to see her dad so angry at the development. Like she's too young to know, and she's just confused, and getting mad at his ex-wife for coddling and indulging Elena. It was heartbreaking to see her on the dance floor alone for the father-daughter dance, when she saw he had taken off. But it was incredibly sweet to see her mom and the rest of the family dance with her.
In any case, it was a nice ending to the season, hope there's another one.
