TV commentary:

Black Mirror- I liked this ep. I think it stands out because for once we actually get a happy ending. And its funny, and pretty great, because its also one of the rare times on TV where a queer couple does get to live happily ever after. Its a wonderful story where for once technological advancement is portrayed in a happy, uplifting way. And the soundtrack was awesome, but I've always been a sucker for nostalgia.

But seriously, what kind of monsters are Yorkie's freaking family?! If San Junipero is kinda like Heaven, an afterlife, they would really freaking deny her passing over? I mean, she's been a fucking quadriplegic for 40 fucking years! It would be a way for her to experience a life she was denied because they disapproved of her! Bastards.

Greg is a freaking saint for trying to help her out. Well, I guess saint is an overstatement, because helping her out like that is common decency in my book. It was sweet that Kelly decided to do it instead. But yeah, after though, its not all sunshine and roses. Because while this is literal heaven for Yorkie, Kelly is still set on not passing over when its her time. As it turns out, its not only her husband who didn't pass over, but their daughter, who died young (well, younger than them, at 39). And part of the reason for him refusing is because she never got the chance to pass over, so why should he?

Of course, its weird, because its not like she's refusing to cross over so she can be with them, because she seems to believe they're just gone. So if that's the case, why not go for the thing she has now? I get she'd been with her husband for nearly 50 years, but it seems like she's moved on. And as Yorkie says, if one does eventually feel like San Junipero is no longer for them, they can just quit anyways. So why deny one self the chance at some happiness?

Again, one thing I love about the show is the nice little touches they have, that you don't really notice the first time around. Like the guy asking Yorkie if she wanted to play that driving game, and her shying away after seeing the crash. Or after the first time Kelly asked her to dance, and you see her dip her feet in the rain. Its like a nothing moment that you don't realize the significance of until you learn about her car accident, or the fact that she's paraplegic!

Thankfully in the end, she relents, and Kelly and Yorkie do get to live happily ever after.
