TV commentary:

Frequency- Ah, I guess I was slightly mistaken in my last post about the Mets thing. At no point do they say Frank or Raimy are Yankees fans. They express disappointment in the Mets, but since its 96, and that's when the Yankees were in the world series, that's the game they're talking about instead of the '69 one. Indeed, her friend Gordo is wearing a Mets hoodie. Heh, in the movie, she, or rather Jim Caviezel gets him to invest in Yahoo, but since they're not as hot as they used be, that wouldn't work. Although I guess it doesn't matter that Yahoo is a shell of its former self now, its getting out at the right time. So, Gordo being 8 in 1996, by the time he's old enough to invest, its prolly well past the time to get out.

Anyways, I liked it so far, though having seen the movie I knew the twist that was coming when her father ended up living. Peyton List is still mighty cute, especially in her sleepwear in the beginning and her rookie cop uniform. Changes from the movie, the dad is a cop instead of a fireman. And instead of dying while fighting a fire, he was killed while undercover, and the world thinks he was a dirty cop.

But Raimy ends up changing all that, saving her dads life and he ends up a hero cop. But like the movie, this inadvertently causes her mom to get killed by a serial killer. In the movie, the killer had died accidentally from a medical mishap, but when the dad didn't die, the mom didn't leave the hospital early and had ended up saving the killer's life. In the TV show, the thing that changes is that she takes a blood sample down to a lab rather than her friend. So she ends up catching the killer's eye and is the one who disappears rather than the friend.

But in addition to the change in victim, like in the movie, the original killer only had 3 bodies (plus the friend). However, the movie his victim count goes up to 10 because of the timeline change, but here it looks like he's still active after 20 years. It'll be interesting to see what changed in the TV show to cause the killer to still be active. Since the friend was taken that night and eventually killed and buried, its not like anything happened that night the first time around to stop his spree.

Also, here, Raimy's fiancee never met her because her mom wasn't alive to introduce them. I thought this was unique to the show, but looking at wikipedia, it turns out Jim Caviezel's gf forgot him in the movie too.

Like I said, I enjoyed the pilot, but I'm unsure to the sustainability of the premise. What do they do when they save the mom's life and catch the Nightingale killer? In the movie, the son eventually saves both his parents, and Dennis Quaid, now alive, is able to save JC from the killer in the present.

Though that reminds me of another thing. In the movie, his father is still dead because of cancer, but he lived a longer, fuller life. But in the TV show, he died in a car accident. So the son could say, hey maybe watch your health and stop smoking, and thus helping his father not get lung cancer. So its a surprise when Dennis Quaid shows up, not dead. Although I guess since Raimy has both sets of memories, she knows when her dad dies and can be all, "Be careful on night X, you get into a car accident!" and have her dad show up at the climax during the season finale.

Oh, I haven't looked at the casting, is the fiancee a cast member? Like does she love this guy enough that she tries to get with him even though he's with another woman? It just seems like she has more important things to deal with, like saving her mom. Which would fix things anyways since she'd be alive to introduce them.

That is funny though, like honestly, I'm surprised he's not in deep shit. Like some totally hot chick shows up claiming to be his gf, if he's all, "I have no idea who that lady is!" how much would his current gf believe him? Because Raimy is certainly acting like they were together, and was creating a scene. The gf didn't see her, but the parents did, and wouldn't they be all, "Who's that lady?" and then the gf should be all, "what lady?" I mean, is she really going to accept, "This animated woman who says she's my gf is a G-D liar who I've never met even though she knows personal things about me!"

Didn't read your whole recap... Apparently I don't remember the movie as much as I thought I did!

I was confused at first by who he was rooting for, Yankees or Braves. Thought maybe he was a generic baseball fan. But he kinda implies you can't be from Queens and not be a Mets fan. I just rewatched the clip... I think he says something like "You have to enjoy the Yankees being slapped around." Eh... They could have done the 86 Mets, with all the craziness of Game 6. But then I guess she'd have to be a whole 10yrs older.
