Since J was in town, the ex-roomie decided to have a cookout. And since church actually let out early (or rather, on time, rather than taking an hour and a half), decided to hit Dough in the Box to pick up some fried croissants. Anyways, the ex-roomie made his famous skirt steak (I've never heard of it!), which was delicious as always, but also some home made guac and some home made bean dip, which were great, as well as an inside-out potato. So lots of good eating.
TV commentary:
Game of Thrones- Pretty cool season finale, lot of big things happening! They kept mentioning how the mad king had secret caches of wildfire under key points in the city, I figured that would come into play, I just did not expect it to happen within the first 10 minutes. Indeed, its time for Cersei and Loras trial. Loras confesses, and get the seven pointed star carved into his forehead, which Margaery is not pleased with. Cersei... doesn't show up. Which Margaery is also displeased with, because its incredibly suspicious. So much so that she drops the penitent act to try and warn everyone to leave the Sept.
Indeed, she is right to be suspicious, because Cersei pulls a Godfather. Looks like when Qyburn took over the little birds, he didn't just make them spies, he turned them into assassins. They kill Pycelle, and lure Lancel to the wildfire cache under the sept and wound him so he gets to crawl their helplessly as candles burn down, ready to set the wildfire ablaze. Cersei has the Mountain keep Tommen in his room.
So yeah, with not only Cersei missing, but Tommen, Margaery tries to grab Loras and flee, telling the others to follow, but the stupid Faith Penitent hold everyone in, thinking its highly irregular for people to leave in the middle of a Holy trial. The High Sparrow was all cocky, thinking he had Cersei beat, but nope, he got blowed up, along with Uncle Kevin, Mace, Loras, and Margaery. The latter of which is total BS! I mean, I guess I can see why they killed her off, she was too smart to stick around, she'd be too effective a foil against Cersei. At the very least, she at least saw through Cersei's gambit, and only died because the High Sparrow's men wouldn't heed her warnings and let her escape.
But whoops, the mad witch's prophecy is finally fulfilled, as Tommen is upset that Margaery is toast. And so he jumps out a window. (who can blame him, Margaery was hot and clever, I'd be upset too!) For all her planning, Cersei didn't see that coming. And now Cersei's kids are all dead. Owel, since all the other contenders for the throne got killed in the Battle of Five Kings, and no other heirs around, Cersei takes the Iron Throne.
Heh, Jaime arrives just in time for this. Well, first, he and Bronn show up to King's Landing all, "WTF happened here?!" So he goes to the throne room during Cersei's coronation. Can't say he's too pleased. Not only did their son die because of this, he freaking killed the Mad King to stop this very thing from happening, and his sister went ahead and did it anyway!
But yeah, this coup will not stand! Olenna is already in Dorne, securing an alliance with the Martells against the Lannisters. And I guess Varys shows up to ally with them. So I guess we have a coalition of Dany, the Martells, the Tyrells, and Yara and Theon Greyjoy? Not there? Daario and the Second Sons. Heh, Dany leaves him in charge of keeping the peace in Mereen. Or at least that's the excuse. Tyrion advised her to do so because she can't have a lover, she needs to be free to date in order to secure alliances via marriage.
Anyways, despite Tyrion's missteps, on the whole he's had a good track record. So Dany makes him her Hand. And she and her army sail on stolen Master ships and the rebel Greyjoy fleet to head to Westeros.
In the North, Benjen takes his leave of Bran and Meera, as he can't cross the wall due to its protection magic. Bran decides to make one last vision quest, and he sees the Tower of Joy- and we finally get confirmation that Jon Snow is really Lyanna Stark's son with Rhaegar. So what is Jon doing right now? Well, first banishing Melisandre after Davos reveals she had Shireen burned at the stake.
Then he has a meeting with the Northern families, and they're hemming and hawing until Lyanna Mormont embarrasses the other families by calling them out for not supporting the Starks. And so thoroughly chastised, the Northern families proclaim Jon King of the North. Sansa is pleased, though less so when she realizes Littlefinger isn't thrilled. Earlier his creepy ass hit on her, saying how he covets the Iron Throne and wants he at his side when he does it. So I wanna say she's worried what his scheming ass might do.
Other stuff. Sam and Gilly make it to Maester-school. They get a cold reception, but we at least see Sam get to see the big-ass Library, and he seems extremely happy to be there. Oh, and in the dark horse move of the night, Arya disguises herself as a servant girl in the Frey household. Only we don't know its her at first. We just think its some random cutie who Bronn thinks Jaime should try to bang.
After those two leave (not before Jaime gets in a dig in to Walder- they allied with the Freys to have them control Riverrun to protect them from the Lannisters. But if they have to save his ass every time, what do they need thim for?) the girl's true identity is revealed after she pulls a Cartman and tricks Walder into eating a pie... made of his own sons! Ha! But then yeah, she slits his throat. So her list is getting shorter.
Anyways, it surprising how many characters were culled this ep. Because now it seems like 2 more 8 season eps is now too much. It will be interesting to see how everything plays out.
