The Americans- I thought this show was ending this season. But apparently not. I guess I just misinterpreted things said about the season last year. Its like, I was all ready for it to be done. That being said, I guess last night's ep was actually interesting. And there were connections I didn't even think about. So Stan talks to Phillip, just needing someone to talk to. He talks about Gaad being killed, and thinks its the KGB, and rants about how the Soviets are monsters who do horrible things, like if it wasn't classified the things he could tell Phillip. But yeah, after Stan leaves, Phillip actually is left a little reeling, because he actually mentioned in his report that Stan's boss was going on vacation to Thailand, and wonders if they went after Gaad then because of the report.
Anyways, we finally find out the whole Young Hee op has been building to. "Patty" tells Don she's pregnant, and when he rejects her, her family (Phillip, Gabriel, and the 60 year old computer tech that was requested, played by Kathy Geiss from 30 Rock) shows up at his work to inform him that Patty killed herself and give them a piece of their mind. They demand a payoff to pay for funeral and trip costs, and basically guilt him into leaving Gabriel and computer lady in his office alone. But they don't find the key codes! Though they did copy his drives, so maybe they'll find something there. Otherwise, this was all for naught. Its heartbreaking too, because as far as Young Hee knows, her friend dropped off the face of the Earth, and she's been wanting to talk to her because she needs someone to talk to since her husband has been acting all weird.
Getting back to Stan, he meets with Oleg to tell him they're no longer meeting- after all the deaths he's experienced since joining counter intelligence, his marriage failing and all that, he's tired. I guess part of him likes Oleg, so he doesn't want him to be another casualty in their work since the Feebs want him to blackmail Oleg and turn him.
Ha, but yeah, the poor sad sack I guess apparently shows up at the Jennings around dinner time looking for food and company. And so he accidentally crashes the dinner party they're having with Pastor Time and Alice. Since Henry idolizes Stan, he invites him to it. The dinner is hilariously awkward, what with the Pastor and his wife expressing surprise at them knowing an FBI agent (Elizabeth explains later its pure coincidence) while its clear Stan isn't the biggest fan of these people when he finds out they're kinda hippie.
Anyways, the whole Ethiopia business has actually been good for the Jennings- Pastor Tim and his wife feel so guilty about blaming them and causing trouble for them that Elizabeth thinks they can guilt them into submission.
But onto that shocking ending! So Elizabeth and Paige walk to their car from a food drive at the church (why is she parked so far away?), giving Paige time to mention how Stan's son has gotten closer to his dad, with his dad spilling things, and Matt in turn spilling things to her. She mentions the whole Martha thing, and I'm guessing at some point her parents are going to have her work him. We don't get the time to see her contemplate this, because their accosted in the parking lot by muggers. Elizabeth tries to give them money to go, but then the idiots get all rape-y seeming with Paige, so Elizabeth's instincts kick in and she kills one of them with their own knife. Needless to say, Paige is horrified, so it'll be interesting to see how things turn out.

Date: 2016-05-26 09:30 pm (UTC)I didn't remember hearing it was the last season, but with everyone being killed off I thought maybe I missed it or it was up in the air that they wanted to get some closure jic.
Not that Elizabeth needs to be totally cold... Or maybe I'm reading it wrong, but the whole Yung Hee / talking to Pastor Tim thing is like she's becoming soft. That's Phillip's job! Haha.
