The Originals- Whoops! Maybe there's some subtleties I'm missing here, but the ongoing story arc this season has been incredibly confusing. So obviously, the Mikaelson family doesn't want anyone getting their hands on the horsie. But it sounds like the Strix only want it because they know if it falls in the wrong hands, they're all dead. And it seems like they're engaging in a pointless war when they want the exact same damn thing!! Like if it was a lie, and the Strix wanted to take one of the other Mikaelsons other than Elijah out, that would explain their behavior! Owel, at least with the surprise reveals this ep, things make more sense.
So, Cami gets Vincent's help and has him erect a barrier in the City of the Dead graveyard. She'll safely hold onto the horsie until Klaus gives her back her dark objects. He reluctantly agrees. They spend the whole ep bickering- Klaus calls her obstinate, succumbing to her newborn whims, and now is not that time to be doing something so foolish as taking the white oak toy and bringing it out in the open with the prophecy looming. Cami admits the reason she needs those dark objects is she doesn't feel safe. There's no way she'd last one round against Aurora. And she can't trust that Klaus and his family can protect her, because even though Klaus says he cares for her, a lot of the troubles in her life can be traced back to him and his family.
But yeah, Klaus was right to be worried, but not in the way he expects. He sends Elijah to distract the Strix (more on that later), so he can make the deal with Cami without them interfering. Unfortunately, Aya tasks the Strix coven and Davina into channeling Ariane to figure out what she knew that Elijah killed her for. They're unsuccessful at first and while the coven rests to try again, Davina consecrates Ariane's body, since she was taught that witches who die in NOLA cannot rest if they're not consecrated.
While doing so, she gets some flashes, inspiring her to do a spell to astrally project into the compound, where she spies on Klaus and Hayley arguing (since he's creating a clamor gathering up the dark objects, Hayley is playing the mother role, chastising him for possibly waking the baby) and finds out the secret weapon is the horsey and Cami has it in the City of the Dead.
Unfortunately, when she comes to, one of the sisters is waiting there, who forcefully takes the info from Davina's mind. So the Strix coven goes there (since Vincent's spell only blocked other vampires, not witches) and the only one of them with speaking lines (I don't think they ever actually use her name at any point) subdues Klaus and Cami while the rest of them distract Vincent. Cami manages to use one of the dark objects on her, but she still manages to get away.
And in one of the many twists of the night, turns out that one sister is secretly working for Aurora, and gives the horsey to her. Heh, and then the sister is all, "So, you'll keep your promise of freeing me from my servitude?" Which, phrased that way of course means Aurora kills her pretty immediately. Aurora takes the horsey to some dude, who turns it into wooden bullets.
So back to Elijah distracting the Strix. So, apparently we learn Elijah and Aya used to be a thing. She was one of the first Strix, and helped him write the charter. Everything came crashing down one day when Mikael came around. Elijah ran to check on the safety of his family, and wanted Aya to run with him. She refused, wanting to fight along side her Strix brethren. So, she saw Elijah as a coward who ran and abandoned his people. Tristan was the one who saved the Strix, hence how he had taken over.
Anyways, Elijah shows up to take control of the Strix back, invoking the charter. But Aya is the one who helped write the charter, so she knows it as well as him. She challenges him for leadership- whoever holds the charter by midnight is leader. They fight it out in the gym to see who will be left conscious to hold the charter at said time. BUT! Marcel runs in and steals it and basically runs and hides in NOLA until midnight arrives. By their law, he says he should be leader.
He makes a pretty convincing case for himself, though Elijah is ready to rip his heart out. Aya says he can't, because the others won't respect him if he doesn't follow his own laws. So Marcel is the new leader of the Strix.
So twist #1 in this part of the story- it was all theater! Marcel and Elijah had been working together the whole time. Since the Strix were busy with this, they didn't know what was going on with Cami. (Of course, that actually ended up hurting the Mikaelsons in the end, since the Strix coven was left to their own devices and the one witch ended up taking the white oak to Aurora instead) Plus, now the Strix are under the control of someone the Original family trusts.
But twist #2 comes when Marcel interviews Aya to see where she's at and see if he can trust her. And she reveals a secret- there's a reason she wanted to recruit Davina. She has a spell that Davina and the coven can cast together, which will unlink the line from their sires, allowing them to not have to worry about dying if something happened to the Mikaelsons ever again.
So, even though Marcel has been towing the family line, this new bit of information may be just too tempting for him.
