TV commentary:

True Detective- Well, that was an... interesting ending. So, as many suspected, Caspere's death was done perpetrated by the kids who were orphaned by that jewelry store robbery back in the early 90s. We do find out there is one other connection- Caspere had been having an affair with their mom. I'm still a little hazy on whether Dixon and Burris did the heist because Caspere gave them some inside information to make it a breeze, or if Caspere basically ordered a hit on the parents because the affair would get him in trouble or something.

Anyways, after the kids were orphaned, they ended up getting split up- Laura ended up with a foster family, but Lenny got put in a group home. She felt bad about him getting the raw deal, so she ran away, and ended up working the streets. Which eventually got her into the sex parties, which eventually got her hired as Caspere's assistant. Eventually she found out about the blue diamonds (which she recognized) through her friend, that one hooker who was murdered in the woods for trying to blackmail him and put 2 and 2 together. She found and told her brother, and they were trying to recover the diamonds but Lenny had some unresolved anger over the whole thing (especially about his sister becoming a whore) and went a little crazy and killed him.

So, she was the one who left the body all the way out there to find. Meanwhile, Lenny was the one who went after the hard drive, and put the bird mask on (he saw it at Caspere's secret sex den and put it on, I guess because it was the only handy disguise at the time) and shot Velcoro with the rubber buckshot. Which, I guess the whole rubber buckshot=cop was a red herring, and they also chose a really skinny guy for the brother so people would wonder if the attacker was Burris since he's also a skinny guy?

Anyways, Ray and Ani find out about this from Laura, whom they find at her brother's, having found his address through the union since he was working on that movie set. Oh, they ventured out to do the investigating themselves because they figured out Paul was dead after Ray called his phone and Burris answered. They figured they owed Paul that much to see it all through. They also learn the hard drive is kaput- it was password protected and it erased itself since they didn't know the password. They're only chance is to get to Lenny, who is about to meet with Holloway to bluff them with a trade of the hard drive for the diamonds.

Ray goes alone, and tells Ani to watch Laura til they can walk her into a safe police station as a witness. But, Ani realizes this whole situation is fucked and just sends Laura off to Seattle and tells her to just run. Ray catches up with Lenny and says the only way this works is if they do it right. So Ray ends up meeting with Holloway, with Burris watching from a distance, while Lenny secretly sits close by with a tape recorder. Since they don't know who he is, they pay him no mind. That way, while they can see Ray has no recording device on him, they were unaware of the recorder right next to them with the other guy.

So Ray's getting them to say stuff, like how Dixon was killed because he pissed away his cut of the robbery and was trying to blackmail the rest of them for some more money. Unfortunately, things go to shit real quick- Holloway mentions Laura is actually Caspere's. Which, does that mean he ended up effing his own daughter? I mean, they met at the sex parties- she changed her name and it was years later so he didn't recognize her, and she wouldn't have known he was her dad. I mean, I guess nothing could've happened, they just met at the sex party and he decided to make her his assistant, but if you are a guy who goes to creepy sex parties and rich enough to just hire some hooker to be your assistant, would you hire a girl you weren't screwing?

Lenny flips out and tries to stab Holloway, and unfortunately in the fracas the recorder gets smashed under the foot of fleeing bystanders. Burris tries to take a shot at Ray but Ani shows up in time to wound him. So Ani and Ray get away, Burris manages to flee, but Lenny and Holloway stab and shoot each other respectively before the terminal security gun them both down.

Ani and Ray end up meeting with Frank, who offers Ray to get some sort of payback by letting him join in on the chance to hit that money drop. Ray had already sent Jordan away with Nails protecting her, and he tells Ani to meet with Jordan if he doesn't make it and to tell her he tried. Also, Ani for some reason has fallen for Ray and is like worried about him and stuff, like not just in a friend way, like they're a legit couple now even though they only just slept together the night before and weren't really a thing before that.

So while Ray and Frank are attacking the money drop, Ani checks in on Rick Springfield, who has been suicided with his wrists slashed open. Well, I assume its made to look like he cut his own wrists open, since they mayor was also suicided, with Ray finding his body in the pool (supposedly having downed a bunch of pills beforehand) when he had gone to look for the Mayor's son earlier. So it looks like the bad guys are cleaning house.

Ray and Frank's robbery actually goes without a hitch, they kill the Russian guy and I think the one Catalyst guy and getting all the money. Unfortunately, after they get away and they're heading back (separately, since Frank was changing the cash for diamonds), Frank gets captured by the Gonzalezes, who are all pissed that the clubs burned down. He's fine with giving them a suit case full of $1 million, since he had much more in diamonds stashed in his jacket. They were all set to just leave him in the desert, but then one of the guys tried to take his suit, so he fought them and got stabbed.

So he ends up wandering the desert and bleeding out. Which is kinda bullshit. Yes, he was a bad guy, but less bad then a lot of the other people on the show. He just wanted to go legit and ended up getting screwed over by circumstances. Like his revenge and escape plan was going well, and he basically gets killed by some randoms?!

Ray is all set to head back to Ani so they can just run to Venezuela, but he foolishly goes to see his son one last time. I mean, I get it, its his son, but still. When he gets back to his car, he notices a transponder and figures he's being watched. So he decides to just lead the bad guys as far as he can so Ani can get away. She does, and we see that his pursuers are Burris and some more PMCs. Ray puts up a good fight, and manages to take out a couple of them before going down in a hail of bullets. And as a kicker, the recording he made detailing everything and with some words of advice for his son never gets uploaded because the signal strength is too weak out there in the middle of nowhere.

I think his death is also bullshit. I mean, he made many mistakes in his life, so he prolly wasn't going to get a happily ever after, but it sucks that he got killed not because of a mistake stemming from one of his many vices, but because he just wanted to see his son one last time before he was gone.

And ha, it really is his son! Which wait, Ray wanted his wife to promise him he'd never know his father was this serial rapist, since they were so sure it was that guy. But then Ray does end up being his real father but as far as the public knows, he's a disgraced cop who killed a bunch of people. So his son will still have issues, I think. Not that he didn't have them already.

Anyways, so the bad guys win, the mayor's son becoming the new mayor, and the surviving bad guys reaping the benefits of the new rail construction. But, Ani tells her story to the reporter Ray beat up way back in the beginning, saying she owes his SONs to clear his name. Which yup, Ani got knocked up from that one night stand. And she's leaving in South America, raising it with Jordan, with Nails as their bodyguard. The end.

The Strain- Ha, finally! Eph cut off all his hair so he could slip out of NY, so Corey Stoll is back to being bald.

I did like this ep because when Dutch and Nora go to get Fet out, they do so by teaching Senator lady and her task force some tricks. They had been quarantining people for 72 hours to see if people manifest symptoms, so Nora shows them they can just shine UV light on the person to reveal the worms. Dutch and Fet show the main police swat guy doing the building clearing the benefits of silver- his team has just been taking head shots (which they're pretty good at). He think its fine, but does finally acknowledge the benefits when Dutch takes out a bunch by tossing a grenade down a shaft a few vamps are nesting in.

Police guy also tells them about the creepy spider kid vamps of Kelly's, having run into them the night before. Looks like the kids are very fast and agile, making them difficult to hit.
